My front tire and rears are not wearing out at the same time. This was a used sv650s, I'm guessing the previous owner did the front and the rears at different times. Is it extremely dangerous to replace only front or only rear if they are going to be matching treads?

i bought my bike used and had to replace the back tire as soon as i got it home.
continental on the front and Avon on the back. 3000 miles later and no problems in the twisties

Just make sure that your front tire is at least equal or better then the rear tire in terms of dry/wet grip. And what Doxie said is a pretty common rule of thumb on Moto tires.

...i did last summer! that thing is WEIRD but cool, amazing front grip!! duh!!
but, not as weird as that CanAm Spyder tho', THAT was a handfull..
