Remus Slip On advice

Hello all,

I wanna upgrade my exhaust on the cheap, because i am a cheap. I currently have a deal on 4 different Remus slip on system for $200. The systems they have for my Gen1:

1. Carbon Grand Prix
2. Titanium Grand Prix
3. Aluminum Revolution
4. Titanium Revolution

These are all from the north american distributor and brand new.

Does anyone have any experience with Remus on their own or their friend's SV? What are the differences between the grand prix and the revolution? Is $200 a good deal on Remus motorcycle exhausts? I know they make great quality auto exhausts.

Thanks for any input,
Duane

I don't know the grand prix, but the Revolution is my favourite slip-on by miles... It's heavy, but it sounds amazing, beautifully made too. And it's one of the very few cans that works well and sounds good with the removable baffle in, generally they're more or less a cork, and ruin the whole package. That may or may not matter to you, having a volume control is nice though.
I have been researching these exhausts as much as possible because I am really interested in getting one too. As far as I can tell the difference between the grand prix and the revolution is that the revolution has the removable baffle design. It is supposedly more of a street pipe, where as the grand prix is more racing oriented. $200 for one of those pipes is a deal! Usually Remus and "cheap exhaust" aren't said in the same sentence. I haven't found the Carbon Fiber Revolution pipe for less than $500. If you don't mind me asking where did you come across this deal? If you really want a deep, throaty tone then carbon fiber is the way to go. My friend has a carbon fiber remus exhaust on his ducati and it is the best exhaust i've ever heard. All the other CF's sound like lawnmovers on the SV.
Strangly enough i was wandering through craigslist and saw an ad for early 2000 japanese motorcyle exhausts - $100. I replied and to my surprise it was the North American distributor for Remus. They replied and said that it would be $200 for a slip on system for my 2001 sv. After a few back and forth emails i have decided on the Grand Prix Carbon high mount all for .........$200. They guy said they have too much in inventory and they want to get the remus name out here in the states. I will be visiting them on Monday and will give you guys more info after that. I'm sorry i'm not giving the entire details, but i want to make sure this is legit and come Monday I will know.
Here the email with pics that they sent me in response if they had any 2001 sv650 exhuasts:

Hey Duane!

Yes we do. Here are some images of the canister options you have:

We offer you the Slip-On system for $200.- which is an amazing deal as all these products are brand new.

Let me know if you have any further questions and I’d be glad to answer them as soon as possible.

Just to let you know, we are the official North American Importer for REMUS.

Regards,
Patrick

I have the two bros CF exhaust and love it sounds great. I got a great deal on it for like 350.00. so 200 bucks is a steal.
I like the looks of those and for $200 they look even better.
So......is there a web site or email address to get a hold of these guys? I googled "Remus" and the site I found doesn't list Suzuki as a bike they make exhausts for.

Their website doesn't have Suzuki on it, but if you google remus and SV650 you will see some online retailers that sell em. I do have an email address and a direct phone number for them, but i want to wait till Monday. I will be visiting their showroom and see if this deal is really true. I hear these exhausts are the **** in europe so i am quite excited. Don't worry i won't leave you guys out on this deal.
My bike came with a Remus exhaust on it, Sounds awesome. Don't know the details on it but if you want a pic let me know.

Remus exhausts are very nice. Best sounding exhaust I've ever heard on a twin and the cans are well built. It's too bad they don't have any Revolutions in Carbon Fiber. if you go to pipecity.com you can find Remus exhausts for the SV on their site but like I said they are all around $500 so $200 is a steal for any of those. It's kinda flaky as to who the Remus-USA dealers are. It seems like every website claims they are THE U.S. dealer for remus. I'm interested to see how your deal turns out though. You should ask if they have any Revolution series slip-ons.

Hmm, it looks like there is lots of room for negotiation. I'm also from SF, and contacted the same craigslist ad. Here's our email chain:

I saw your ad on craigslist. I wonder if you have anything for a 2001 Suzuki SV650?

Yes, we do offer a high mount system for that bike.
We could offer you the Grand Prix Slip-On system for $330.-

We can’t offer it to you for $200.- because it’s not that old of a model.
Let me know what you think and if you have any further questions.

Thanks for getting back to me Patrick, but I'll pass for now.

Ok, no problem!

Just let me know whenever you are interested in an exhaust set-up.
If it’s something about the price – I bet we could work something outJ

I just picked it up today. 217.50 out the door. I got the high mount grand prix carbon fiber. The exhaust tip is slightly different than the one pictured. The owner said the special applies to what they have in stock at the warehouse for older bikes. I got the last high mount for gen 1 but they said they had one low mount left. This turned out to be a legit deal. I will post all the pictures when I get home tonight. The distributor is max moto- the north american importer for Remus and they are located at Emeryville CA
interesting, that's the place i emailed for the Carbon fiber revolution slip-on. He didn't set me up with any deals though. probably cause the revolutions are newer.
OK here are the pics:

I do have a few questions if anyone can answer them.

When installing do you have to use a sealant like silicone or just mount and connect them right on?

Also there is a candy like sticky film from the plastic wrap on the can. What do you clean carbon fiber with?

Hopefully i will get the time to install it in the next couple weeks and put up pics and sound clips. One of the workers there had a 919 there with dual grand prix which he let me hear as he revved it up. It was loud, but not overly loud and had a nice tone which would be alot deeper on the SV.
By the way i got the quote on the revolution and it was $230 for the slip on system, but they only had aluminum and titanium.

Here's more details about the deal. It looks like that they still want to move more inventory because they sent out this craigslist ad out today.
http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/mcy/1027415596.html

The company is MAXMOTO located at 1365 63rd st. Emeryville, Ca 94608.
Thier number is (510) 595-3300 and talk to Patrick.

As you can see in the previous post that the link pipe/mounting hardware is really not a deal only being a 9 dollar discount, but the cans at 100 are a steal.
The ad says 2003 or earlier Japanese bikes and i know they have one more gen one link pipe in standard mount. Cans seem to be pretty much universal, but not 100% sure. If you can get link pipes/mounting hardware that fit your year bike and the cans are universal it looks like a super steal.
thanks for checking out about the revolutions. I guess i'll just have to bite the bullet and pay full price. good thing I just got my tax return :)
