I read an article that discussed 18 wheelers that used these gadgets to evade tolls, but I didn't think it would be that popular (especially with consideration to the heap of potential law enforcement issues that would arise if someone was caught with this on his/her vehicle). Apparently, there are a number of designs for bikes as well.

I don't think I'd ever get one, but it's interesting what folks are doing to get out of the camera's eye. What do you guys think?

I think you'd be better off putting the plate in front of your rear fender, which would only be ~$125 fine compared to a felony.

Like I said, I don't think I'd ever get one. But I didn't realize that putting the plate in the rear fender was $125 as well. I have a regular Hamicad FE and it works well.

I have one it works great. Mine works on air power. With a small button mounted on my handlebars. Works great when you blow through those quick yellow lights and the camera tries to get your picture. Never used it to toast a toll though. I have EZPASS

Depending on where you live, you could be asking for big trouble. Simply having a device like that will get the vehicle impounded immediately and you arrested in some places. Same thing with plates mounted way under the bike. Some places it's a fine, some places it's "intent to conceal" and will get the vehicle towed.

Many toll roads have LEOs waiting for evaders. In the case of big rigs, they are too easy to identify by other means (trailer numbers, for example), so I doubt that many would take the chance.

Laws vary, be careful. Also be aware that due to the war on drugs, there is a federal statute that can be invoked anywhere, anytime, involving intent to conceal.

That just blows me away.

I think anyone running with that kind of crap on their vehicle ought to get hammered by the law.

It serves no useful purpose nor offers any enhancement to a bike or car. It only wreaks of felonious intent.

I dont think they should be illegal. Their use for avoiding police/cameras should be illegal, but why shouldnt you be able to have one?

Even by a stretch of the imagination, what possible use or benefit could you see coming from these that isn't illegal in its nature? I'm really interested to know some thoughts on this.

The only use that isn't illegal in nature is for a show vehicle, to give it a cleaner look. Hey, you asked.

One of my friends rigged that up on his CBR, had a wire loop running to where the passenger peg was, pull that and the plate flipped up. He actually did a nice job with it and it was cool to see. Unfortunatly, the reason he had it was his lack of motorcycle endorsement. Lets just say I didn't ride with him often.

That was one thought I had...but on the other hand, if you are really about show, then just eliminate the plate all together unless you mean the "cool factor" of showing off a plate that disappears.

Does it even matter? This is America. We are supposed to be "FREE". It shouldn't be illegal to have it, it should just be illegal to use it for certain law breaking purposes.

You have a bike that will do over 65mph, but that isn't illegal. Using it to break the speed limit is.
