Hey all,

My paint got f-ed up by a local performance shop who used hot high pressure water to clean my cylinder jugs.

For those who have experience painting engines, what paint would be good to redo it? Anything come close to the OEM dark grey/black and finish of the 1st gen engines?

The bike is mostly black and I'd like to keep it that way.

Thanks!

I think you will have to go to local auto parts stores that stock high heat paint or engine paint and test different charcoal paints by trial and error.

Most likely you won't find anything listed as a direct match, so you'll have to shoot a small test panel of each and compare it to what you are looking for.

No easy way to do it unfortunately.

One other option would be take it to a powder coater to see if they could match-up the color. No need for high heat powder or anything special - standard powder will hold up on the cylinders.

And how do you prep the surfaces? I've used some serious paint strippers but I hesitate to put that stuff near the gaskets and seals of the motor.

Street/trackday.

And hypothetically, what if it were a race bike?

If it were a racebike, I wouldn't bother with it.

Street I can understand as aesthetics plays a part...a race bike is a wrench.

good luck
