No, not can I put a fattie on it.

I'm new to this forum, new to sportbikes... just generally ignorant. They say it's curable, ergo...

Bought an '05 SV650 and promptly got a nail in the rear tire. The shop put a 160/70 rear on the bike instead of 160/60. Not what I ordered, but too late to change. Long story.

What effect will this have? I see lots of posts about a 70 profile front but nothing about a 70 profile rear. It has the stock tire up front.

thanks

Thanks, I didn't notice much difference and this is a daily rider, not a racer. Just wondered if it would improve or worsen handling, lean in, traction, etc. in some way by changing the geometry.

It will change the handling, although for better or worse is up to individual preferences. It has the effect of raising the rear 16mm (a tad more than 1/2") which will speed up turn-in, reduce straight line stability. Note that many SV owners raise the fork tubes that much in the triple clamps to drop the front end that much (same effect as raising the rear end) to achieve just that, quicker turn-in.

Some folks prefer the quicker turn-in, some folks prefer more straight line stability. SVs in general are pretty stable bikes. If you can feel no change then don't worry about it. If it feels a bit too "twitchy" then go back to a 160 next time. If it feels nice and you like the turn-in you could stay with a 70-series.

Thanks, guys. Those answers give me some peace of mind. I'll probably just go with it for now and back to stock as soon as it wears out... assuming it wears out and there are no more nails in my future!
