I am at 11,500 miles and I wanted to give my bike a tune up. I am not the greatest mechanic but I have a friend that owns a car shop and he is learning more about bikes. I wanted to know what you guys think I should be doing at this stage, also I called my dealer and he said that I should just check air filter, change oil, check plugs, and reposition thottle. He also said at 15,000 that I should get my valves adjusted and that was going to be a 3 1/2 hr. job, is that really neccessary?

Bike is running good but sometimes the engine doesnt catch when I try to start it or it starts real quick then when I give it gas it spins out.

I say do the simple stuff now. Then when the time comes for the engine checkup, take it to the shop. :)

Still got your owners' manual? The schedule's in there. Put together by some fairly knowledgeable people who have a lot to loose if your bike has reliability issues.
