I bought the cherry sensor and lee valley magnets suggested in this post. I have an 2005 so i'm using 8 magnets. I'm not getting any reading at all.

Does the bike have to be running to get a reading on the speedometer? When I turn the key to the on postion the spedometer reads zero. If I spin the wheel really hard nothing changes, it still reads zero.

My thought was maybe the bike has to actually be running? Maybe the wiring I followed in this post is different because his was a 2002 (I don't think so)? Maybe I just can spin the wheel by hand fast enough to get a reading? Maybe I have a bad sensor?

Thanks for your help,

Brian

The bike does not have to be running. It only needs the key turned to ON, and then give the front wheel a spin.

You could have the magnets turned the wrong direction.
You could have the magnets too far from the sensor.
You could have the sensor wired up wrong.
You could have a bad sensor.

Difficult for me to troubleshoot without putting my hands on the actual parts.

I turned the magnets around and it worked fine. Most web sites I checked said to have the south side if the magnet facing thd sensor. That was wrong with the Norgh side of the magnet facing the sensor it worked fine. Thanks for your help.
