I know mine does NOT run, when I start the bike up.
I have only had mine run several times, mid summer (temps in the high 90's), while sitting stuck in traffic. Otherwise it seems to get enough air flow.
Even when I start it, and let it warm up, the fan doesn't run. And believe me, you don't wanna put your bare hand on the radiator hose on the left side of the bike.
The fan doesn't run until the heat load is too high for the radiator and air flow alone. Even in the summertime they usually don't kick on unless you're in traffic.
unless your stoppped in stop n go traffic, you fan will probably never turn on
in the 135,000 miles, I can count on one hand and still have 2 fingers left over how many times my fan came on, not only how many times, but I can tell you exactly where I was, the first time, it freaked me out, what was this new noise I was hearding with 38,000 miles on my bike
Mine has run once since I got the SV in Nov of '06. I think it came on @ 215 deg.
