I'm about to do my first oil change on my bike, I was wondering if it is completely necessary to use the SUZUKI oil filter or is there a cheaper brand available that will do thejob?

can anyone recommend a particular type/model of oil filter i can use?
thanks!

So where would one actually buy, say, the Purolator?  Does Pep Boys carry that brand?
Yep.

Yes they do. CarQuest/NAPA will have a Wix filter to fit. Autozone will have STP.
