It is a crappy double standard, but it happens. Just gotta make sure the people you joke with know that you're joking and can handle it.

I had a good friend (black guy) I worked with at Best Buy for a couple years. I myself am a super honky so we would rag on each other. If we were ever just standing talking by ourselves I would get real loud and yell "what the hell do you mean 'you people'?". That always got a few looks and he wouldn't know what to do. However if I ever called him over for help with something, he would yell "yessa massa, puh please don't hit me no more" and come running up. Man did I ever feel like the devil when he did that.

Moral of the story, have some situational awareness. I'm not for being PC, but that doesn't mean be a retard.

I couldn't agree more. I graduated from a school that was around 70% black, so I kind of know how things work. My roommate last year was black, we had some great talks. He made some points that I never thought about, but still.. being PC is retarded.

My current roommate got called out for saying black to a black girl. She said that she wasn't black; instead, she was african american. So, he asked her what he was. She replied "you're white". He quickly corrected her, "No. I'm an italian polish american."

Never do I want to hear the term "black american of african decent" used in commonplace

Honestly I don't care what people call me but then again I'm as sensitive as a sandpaper condom. Black works fine...I'm not from africa so I want no association with that turd of a country.

I agree with raptor22, afro american seems way similar to "*****" to me. I can't really explain why, but I can see more people taking offense to that than "black".

I just think the term "african american" doesn't work for all black people. There's dark people from india, there's almost black dominicans, etc.

Why, after how many decades since the abolition, a lifetime since MLK, and all the associated babel that has come with it, are we still going round and round on something as asinine as race? We're all human, no? We can easily interbreed, correct? Then race is no more a factor than eye color or predisposition towards ingrown toenails. And yes, both sides are equally at fault. How we got here is only marginally relevant. Where we go from today is more important. We're Americans, plain and simple. If we must declare a protected minority, it should be lefties. Get over yourselves folks.
