Hey guys. I'm fairly new to motorcycles. I've been riding for two years, recently upgraded to the 2009 Suzuki Gladius...So humor me! ;D

-Is the Gladius suitable for a daily driver?
Talking about engine/chassis reliability and durability. I live at 6500 ft. in a semi-dusty climate, so it's kind of hard on engines. I used to drive a Suzuki DR200SE...And it was the most unreliable hunk of crap ever.

-How long will the Gladius last?
With cars, you hear a lot of 250,000 - 300,000 miles is when cars die. Is there a range like that for motorcycles?

-Will a SV650 air filter fit the Gladius?
Since it's basically the same engine...And K&N doesn't seem to be planning a Gladius specific filter! :'(

-Can you recommend a very powerful anti theft device?
I'd like a SUPER sensitive alarm. I do live about 1 hour from the Mexican border, so motorcycle thefts are a BIG problem!

Oops! Sorry...More questions!!!

Oh my what a list of questions and Im probably not equipped to answer most of them. Some starters tho ..yes a slip on will add a bit more power but not much, dont know if the sv filter is the same but get the part numbers and check. An aftermarket filter may let in more air...hence more power but again it would small. No a motorcycle engine is not going to do 300,000 miles! Yes the Gladius is very suitable as a daily rider.

I'd say yes to your first question. It's more than willing and suitable for the job

Cant answer your second question as dont know;D

3rd question. I have seen a K&N airfilter on e.bay for the Gladie.

No idea about alarms. Don't have one.

I have been running without the OEM tailpipe since 22 mi. on the odometer, now at over 6400 mi., no problem what so ever. Rain water does not get into the cat if you keep running the engine.. just avoid parking in the rain... or drill a hole at the bottom of the cat.

I run with and without the tailpipe, depending on if I'm due for service. :)

I've had the pipe off all along with the exception of the day I brought the bike in for the first service.

I do have a couple problems...

1.) I can't stop riding the bike...
2.) The miles are racking up.
3.) My hair tends to get messy under my helmet
4.) My wife is suffering from abandonment issues.

:p

Ride without the can until you can afford a nice looking pipe, which in my opinion....is only for show. It'll look much better with a pipe on, but it's a mod that can go lower on the list.

The Gladius should be a great daily driver. It seems to be what it was designed for.

Don't know how long it will last, it is a brand new bike but with it being built like the SV650 I would think that at least 100,000 miles should be expected. I've seen bikes with nearly and over 200,000 miles on them.

If you live in a dusty climate wouldn't a freer flowing air filter let in more dust and dirt?

Try a really hefty lock.

A full system, air filter and a power commander should add a decent amount of power. A slip on and an air filter probably won't do too much.
