Hey guys,

I've been checking this site out for a little while now, finally decided I had a question of my own. I'm new to the SV world, and I am searching for one of my own. I found one that's about a 2 hour drive from me, and I've talked to the guy and am hopefully going up to check it out next weekend. The question is... is this a good deal? Here's the specifics on it...

2005 SV650 naked
10,000 miles
Full Yosh pipe
Sergeant seat
spools
bar end mirrors
turn signals
K&N air filter
GSX-R rear shock
Frame sliders
Power Commander PCIII

He said there's a lot of other little things that I didn't list that he has done to it. The bike is 1 owner, over 40 (aka responsible) and from what I can see, the bike is clean. He's asking 4,800, said on the phone that he could do 4,500.

So considering the way that people have been seeming to value these bikes (there's an 03 for 6100 for sale right now here too), regardless of blue book value, this is one of the better deals that I've seen. Just want a sanity check I guess... do I need to pounce on this? Located in California, by the way, so everything tends to be a bit more here...

Welcome to svr. $4500 wouldn't be terribly out of line if it's in the condition you described. 10k on a properly maintained and reasonably ridden SV is chump change, however, it is closing in on the recommended valve clearance inspection interval. Some other things I would ask about:
-tire brand/model/condition?
-any front suspension upgrades...springs, emulators?
-any stock parts come with the deal?
-any modifications to the oem fuel/emissions system or motor intrnals?

I think that price is a little high considering that the bike IS four years old now, regardless of mileage and add-ons. I've seen them go for significantly less with similar mods.

But if the price is ok with you, and it's in mint condition, then there's worse deals out there.

If the bike is mint thats an decent deal. Bt i'm think if you went to look at it and handed him $4300, maybe even $4200 he would take it.

I think he should take $4000 cash.

1.5 years ago I bought my 2005 SV650S with 4,500 miles that was in great condition for $4150... included a helmet and jacket. I sold the jacket for $100, so the bike was really about $4000. If I bought the same bike today it might be $3600.

He is asking a lot for his add ons. They really don't add any value to the bike. Maybe 10-20% of the original price.

Yeah i think thats a little high.

I just bought my SV650 on Tuesday. Its a 2007 with less than 4,000miles, with buell headlight swap and aftermarket exhaust. And i only paid $4000.

I have an 05 with 25K miles. Mine has a stock can, Suzuki low seat, upgraded front end, aftermarket rear shock and no dent.

I'd be happy if I could get $4200 but I wouldn't take less than $3800. Hope that gives you an idea of the worth of that bike.

Alright, so here's the deal on the bike... the tires are actually new, forgot about that part. they are Pilots, I do remember that. Not sure if the valve clearance has been checked, but good eye on that. I'll have to ask.

So as for blue-book value on nada.com is 3k for crap condition, slightly over 4k for average retail. I guess it depends on the area... here in California it seems to be more expensive. Obviously, because of our gas prices and motorcycle laws (advantages on the freeway, splitting lanes, carpool, etc).

You guys are right about not letting the ad-ons dictate the price. However, considering all things, I do like the fact that it has the exhaust, ignition, sergeant seat, etc... those are all things that I would plan on doing anyway, and the cost seems to add up. So, with all things considered, I'm thinking 4200. Am I sane?

a little before summer last year i found an 07 650s for 4500 on craigslist and it had exhaust, frame sliders, undertail, upgraded lights, and some other stuff. there are good deals out there if you dont get impatient. i was actually in the market for a gsxr600 but couldnt pass on it and glad i didnt. with the economy not the best and people probably needing to get rid of stuff to make the hose payment you can probably get some excellent deals with a little patients.

Hey remember there are deals if you wait but how long is too long.

4500 is the highest I would pay.

Do yourself a favor and never dicker on price over the phone, I sell a lot of cars, Boats, Trucks bikes and I hang up when people dicker without seeing it in person or driving it.

Bring 4500 hand 300 to your buddy. And tell him you only have 4200 cash. If he'll take it, sweet if not tell him you will need to go to the bank to get a loan for the last 300. He'll likely fold, and lastly, if he won't have your buddy say "you owe me man, and I mean it" and have him hand you 300 cash.

I have done this and it almost always works. BTW if you do this don't roll up in an 80K car or truck if you do let your buddy drive too.

You dress normal he dresses like a rich kid from Malibu or something.

Sell the story guys are weak, unless they do this a lot like me. But I still fold all the time.

Ha ha, you are sneaky. That's not a bad way to do things. In all reality, there's only so much money that my bank will allow me to pull out of the ATM in a day... and it's not local so I can't go to the cashier. At the rate of money that I can pull in time for the meet, funny enough, I can only pull out 4200 dollars. I might need a buddy to give me a spot loan for 300 until the next day anyway!!!
