I don't know if this is a common occurrence as my google search only brought up a few threads. Anyways, I put a new chain on that came with lithium grease, or whatever. Wiped it off a bit, but figured it would be fine to ride the way it is. I've ridden about 30 miles and the grease is everywhere, even on the rear tire.

After thinking about it, I realized how dangerous it would be to take a hard left with grease on the tire. Thankfully, I randomly thought about it before doing so. Just something to think about for people lubing the chain.

The grease is on the chain to stave off corrosion during storage...you shoulda wiped it all off prior to riding.....then applyed chain lube.

I did wipe the excess off, thinking it would likely be fine for the first couple hundred miles of break-in. I'll definitely wipe it all off next time. :tard:

as a scottoiler user, I routinely see chain lube spattered on my rear tire, if I have the drip rate to high

Although I have observed lube on my tire, its always on the sidewall only and never on the tread/contact patch area

Clean your chain real good with a rag and some WD40, then lube it properly with a good chain lube. DON'T think that the WD40 will lube anything! It is strictly used as a penetrating solvent to take off grime. I've never seen tire splatter from a properly lubed chain, though you'll find all sorts of crud under your chain guard and your front sprocket guard.

I just installed a new chain recently and took the bike to the track the next day. There was a bit of splatter on the wheel itself (very light for it to be cause of concern), never saw anything anywhere near the tire so I didn't pay too much attention to it.
