Hi,

I have a '99 SV650 that I left out in the rain. Now it won't start. I have tools, and was car savvy about 7-8 years ago. I'm hoping somebody can reply with some tips on how to systematically troubleshoot my starting problem.

Here's what I notice:

1. Battery may be low, since starter does not crank. Headlight is bright when I turn on the ignition. Hooking up to a car battery gets the starter to crank, but engine will not start.

2. Gas tank is about 2/3 full.

Since it's supposed to be a dry weekend, I am going to spend some time to get this baby running. Any advice would be appreciated...

simple question but seen it happen a lot, kill switch? pulling clutch in to start?? not sure if you have to on the first gens...

try and get any moisture that is in the front plug hole area out. it is common for SV's to get water in there and it will not allow it to spark.

i think hooking up a car battery is too much. try putting the bike battery on a trickle charger for a day or so.

is the choke/throttle stuck wide open, causing it to flood?
