So, I got myself a track bike last Saturday.
It was a CMRA sprint race bike for a season and a half.
It has everything I ever wanted and need.
It's an '01 GSXR 600 with:
penske rear, suspension by raceworx, full yoshi system, vortex clip ons, woodcraft rearsets, nissin aftermarket master cylinder, 520 conversion, hot bodies plastics, NRC case covers, safety wires and so on.
The bike runs beautiful.
Just looks like crap.
I almost backed out cause it looked so bad (don't get fooled by photos. It's a very photogenic bike, just like me. I think 1/3 of the body's holding it together by duct tape. the previous owner got really creative with colored duct tape).
But when the previous owner started the bike, it sound like heaven...
I took her down from Temple, TX.
I think I drove total 500 miles that day(got lost twice and almost went over to Austin...)
I spent $122.00 just for gas.

September 5th was my first track day with Boo Boo(this was the word came into my head when I saw her for the first time).
Since it was Labor day, track was really crowed.
I think there were nearly 200 riders at the track.
I've never seen that many riders for a track day before.
Of course the day followed by lots of crashes(3 instructor got in some of those. one of the instructor got T-boned by a dumbie who was in intermediate group).

I was really careful with my bike.
It was my first time to ride her and also it's been 10 years since I rode my last inline four.
Not to mention it has at least extra 45+ hp, it was quite different.
But I have to tell you that the best thing to have on the track is good suspension and good race tire.
It really made the whole world difference.
The bike felt so smooth and stable on corners compare to my stock SV.
I wanted to go faster and lean deeper, but everytime I thought of that I pulled into hot pit and cooled off my head.
After all, it was our first day together.
Basically, I was working on how to ride Boo Boo all day.
I still need to work on gearing and RPM, but overall I feel good about the bike.
Actually, I had the most fun at the track that day.

I still need to work on the bike a little bit.
Need new suspension set up(now it's set up for 6'3" 210 lbs, there's at least 70 lbs difference) and maybe new map.
The bike's been running with race fuel.

Other than that, the bike runs great.
I probably would work on the body over the off season.
Next year, I'll be out with my not so boo boo bike.
I probably have at least one more track day left this year.
Can't wait to ride her again!

The day I was picking up Boo Boo

Josh!
I don't think I can make it to MSR this month.
Track day's already paid for, but I'm not sure I can afford gas for 12 hour drive.... (I gotta set up Boo Boo first)
But I'm definitely coming over next month 17 with LSTD.
I'll see you then. ;)

Yeehaw! I'm sad to hear Boo Boo doesn't look so good in person. She looks awesome in pictures.
I remember that instructor! That old man freakin' rocks. Is he still riding the GSXR750 out there?

Another thing... I have to ask: did you drive all the way to San Antonio and then head north to Temple? That would have taken 4 or 5 hours instead of the 2.5-3 hours it could have been.

That old man got himself a sweet 1000rr.

No, I went straight to Temple.
But I got lost twice on the way back and had to head out to Katy instead of Houston.
I had a mechanic waiting for me to show the bike.
He said it sounds good and doesn't see any major problem.
He's going to reset my suspension and remap the bike.

Nutmeg you are awesome! I hope you make it up to MSR in Oct. I'm going to try like hell to be there too! Hope we can meet--and Josh too finally. I've been thinking about getting a beater GSXR track bike and save my pretty SV for commuting and weekend twisties. How much did you pay for yours?

New plastics and that thing will look fresh!

I made a killer deal on my bike.
I didn't wanna spend more than $3,500 to, $4,000.
The bike was listed for $3,900 at CMRA board.
We spoke on the phone for 3,800.
Than, I went over to Temple it was down to $3,500 with some spears.
I paid another 300 for a set or rims and few used race tires.
Consider what the bike has, I think I made pretty good deal(it still has less than 9,000 miles. 4-5,000 is from street).
I probably will spend another $1,000 - $1,500 on resetting, body work, paint job, front stand, tire warmer, frame sliders, set of race tires and rear sets.
This ain't cheap hobby and it's getting expensive....
:-\

CMRA season is almost over, so just wait til mid October and there will be a lot of race bikes on market.
Just careful buying a race bike though.
Try to avoid endurance race bikes and go for the motor.
Check out CMRA board.

Actually, there's a gixxer for $2,500.

Actually, that's my track buddy's car.
I have a 1993 MIGHTY Corolla.
I'm selling the car around Christmas to get a used Tacoma.
Hate to see her go, but having two bikes and no truck doesn't make any sense...

My friend races his NSR50 at TMGP(Texas Minibike Grand Prix - I'm his spear racer ;D )
This is his set up for mini.  ;D

The bike looked great!!

Y'know? As far as the "if it doesn't look good, it may not run well" thing, I would just like to point out that the Millenium Falcon was the "fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy!"

Actually, I like bikes that look like crap yet run like hell.
