just got back from my first track day at poconos east. a quick recap before i sink into bed for a hard earned rest

completed the ART Basic course TPM requires. Managed to get a few dry runs in before the rain set in and remained for the day. a few firsts:

knee down (pics to follow)
crash (pics also to follow)

i have LOTS of pics from the day of me, donnie and doug as well as other track shots, etc. i'll try and get them all posted up tomorrow.

meanwhile, i'm exhausted - riding in circles is tiring.

edit - some pics from the trackday photographer:

edit 2 - the last of the pics of me, doug and donnie are being uploaded as i type. sorry for the delay, but they are huge files! i have more pics of the general track day that i'll upload tomorrow.

not related. knee down in one session. crash in another
Well still, two exciting things. One positive one negative. I'm sure you're tired, but break it to me gently...how is she? Was it cause of rain? Anyone else go down?

there were a few red flags - i think 3 in total.

it was a combination of a little target fixation and going into the corner a little hot. figured i'd run off onto the grass and ride it out. then i realized that if i ran it out, i'd run into the ambulance, so i must have touched my front break, and BAMN! i'm slidin'.

damage: bent radiator (not leaking), bent slider bolt, cracks nose fairing, bent shifter (bolted from last get-off). also have some grass and dirt in the bead of the tire.

i already have a new shifter and some Vortex rear sets, so i should be ok there. I'll be calling Nate on Monday for a new bolt and have already sent some emails out for a new nose (not interested in going naked, though it would be a great opportunity).

the radiator...well, we'll have to see. i'd love to toss on an '04 or '05 that's less wide, but i might go the easy route and ship it out to motorcycleradiators.com to have them fix it right. it's ridable right now once i get the crap out of the tire.

I'll assume your body didn't get thrashed since it seems to be of no concern.

Talk to donnie about that radiator, getting it fixed might work fine, but I was talking to him about mounting up a 1st gen radiator. The only thing that would hinder it's success is the wiring for the temp sensor I believe, besides whipping up some brackets to line up the bolts, thats it.

body's fine. slid about 10-15 feet in the grass. a little muddied, but that washed off in the rain.

i remember you talking to him about that at the campground. i'm not a fabricator so it would be something someone else would need to do for me. perhaps another conversation for another time.

now let me go to sleep! ;)

That's freaking awesome. Even with the crash. That's a great place to wreck (the track) because of allot of reasons and that's a good wreck to have (no major injuries or damage).

I hope you enjoyed your track day as much I enjoyed mine. If so, YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!

I did the same damn thing, except replace ambulance with fence and ad a broken clavicle and scapula. Glad you made it out ok.

Weeeee!

Well done!!

About those pics... the track photographer didn't bother changing angles, eh? Looks lke he sat comfortably in one spot and just let the camera go on rapidfire mode everytime the bikes came around...

Just an obsevation, I know it's difficult to take good photos of bikes moving really fast, but this guy seems to be using the "less effort" technique....

I thought so too. No active panning or anything like that. My guess is that he lost interest for the day due to the weather.
