Motorcycle Cradle?

5498 Views 14 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  drinkbrew
So I am making a haul from georgia to colorado this summer and I want to bring my bike home but I dont have the proper car for towing (06' mazda 3). I have seen some advertisements about these motorcycle single front wheel cradle systems that apparently seem to work just fine but i have one question.

How badly will this toll on my rear tire for a 1400 mile trip? Will it tax the hell out of it or is there not sufficient weight on it to do major damage?

Thanks

are you talking about a sort of one wheeled trailer like a tow truck. If your gonna do that i might take the chain off. free up that drag and over inflate the snot out of the rear tire. do you have any links to one of these. i would maybe invest in a trailer hitch and a small trailer or do what i did.

thats a honda fit. little taller inside than the 3 i think. i had and need the 30 inch tall opening to get it in. could always tilt it in maybe. good luck man and hope a viable and safe option presents itself. could always go Forward Air with it. i just shipped and engine and it was only 90 bucks. maybe 2-3 bills for a bike shipped. call em and check it out. for that long of a haul it might be worth it.

there's just an example, thanks for your info by the way. I would totally go with forward air but i'll only be home in CO for a month =(. Think im going to be forced, due to money, to go with single wheel on the highway =/. Guess I'll just make the ass as light as possible.

Thanks again formula
Also, if anyone has heard of a single rail - single wheel - trailer that would be awesome. thanks

thats a honda fit.

HOLY SMOKE!! YOU ARE MY FREAKIN HERO!

I have a Fit and would love to know what all you did to secure that puppy in there.
Come on man, spill it. I would love to be able to take the bike to the Carolinas this summer. If you have any more pics of how you squeezed the bike in, please post them in a thread or email me.
Well done. I wish the fit was able to tow, but if I remember correctly the manual says it's a no-no.
wow man that cradle is cool but it costs more than a single row trailer. and you need a hitch. that web site utility trailers is awesome. i think i'm going to pick up that single row little guy. didnt know you were going to be home for such a short time and ya you wouldn't want to be shipping it back and forth. i would seriously look into a trailer. looks like the only cost difference would be wiring up the 3 for lights. again good luck man and have a safe trip. and

i've got some pics in another threat Next. let me see if i can find it don't want to jak this thread.
got some more pics of the transport in my sv noob intro thread.http://forum.svrider.com/showthread.php?t=90651
i'll chat it up over there.
Drive up. Take bus back, ride up.:)
Harbor freight FTW, I bought a 4x8 trailer at harbor freight and put a hitch on my car (03 Nissan Sentra) and pulled 2 SV's to the rally from Cleveland. I probably spent about $500 for everything. Theres also this Trailer in a bag a little pricey but very nice.

very true with the pricing, but I dont want to have to pay for licensing and tags. So i guess they would come out to around the same price or cheaper for the cradle. Thanks for all the input guys.
Check out craigslist, too. Folks are selling their trailers after they get rid of their bikes.

Why not get one of thoes? I've seen them for as low as 200 and as skinny as the SV is(street bike wise) that would probably work.
this is the sport touring/trips forum and you are asking about trailering your bike? sheesh. i second the opinion of a bus ticket and riding it back. :dontknow:
It will work just fine. Just remove the chain. Tire wear will be minimal.

the hitch on a car is only a class 1 and has a 200lb toung load, so thats out of the question.
