At about what mileage are these bikes considered "high mileage"? Obviously a lot depends on maintenance, etc., but what is a good general number? I'm interested in a bike, but the biggest scare about the bike is the 26k mileage.

Any tips/thoughts are appreciated! Thanks!

26,000 is not bad at all IF it's always been well-maintained and never abused.
26,000 squid miles, and I wouldn't go near it.
Your job is to find out which it is
If the seller can prove to you that it's the former, go for it.
If you're not confident in your ability to judge, have a good mechanic look at it..

one of my buddy's has a 97 tls(pretty much the same motor) with 124000kms on it and still counting. as long as you maintain them there really reliable engines. my old tlr1000 had 66000kms on it and it started first try everytime.

Bikes with miles in the 20's go for alot less $$$ than the under 10k bikes. Great way to get a bargain. IMO

Once you start getting over 25k miles you just gotta be aware of other things that require maintenance. Things such as making sure valve adjustments have been made on time or even done. Wheel bearings, steering stem bearings. Of course chain and sprocket conditions, etc.
