I sometimes see metal shavings in my oil. My bike seems to run fine otherwise. It doesn't burn oil, sounds ok, mileage is typical, I keep up with maintenance. What would you do?

Shavings that you can see individual chips like kids craft glitter, or like...metallic sheen if you shine a flashlight on it? The former is bad, the latter is probably normal.

Small trace amounts of metal is normal. So long as the bike has been maintained and runs well I would not worry. The SV650 engine is very reliable and will run 100k+ miles if not abused.

How many miles on the bike? When you break it in there will be shavings. There can still be shavings for a few oil changes afterward.

If you want to be 100% sure, have an oil analysis done next time. It will tell you exactly how your engine is doing:
They'll send you a free test kit. The analysis is $28.
Use cheap Rotella T6 oil, change your oil filter every 3rd time as the manual says, and the test will pay for itself compared to what others are doing (overpriced "motorcycle" oil and obsessive filter changes).
