How do you know if you need a new clutch or just an adjustment??

I have read a lot on here by searching so please spare me!

Did a good amount of riding yesterday and have been noticing that when shifting up into gears it doesn't stay sometimes it slips out and I rev. Pretty scary actually when you are in traffic. Once or twice it has slipped out of gear too. My mechanic tightened the clutch lever cable (now the pull is very tight:mad: )the other day noticing that it was loose, not sure if that has anything to do with it. Not sure if I need a new clutch after 20k miles. And if it is somethhing I want to tackle myself or not.

Any insight... pleeaassee ;)

Yes. Haven't looked at it for this topic yet though. Does it have a decent write-up about it?

What causes it to be out of adjustment??

Adjust the clutch per Andy Auger's clutch mantra (FAQ section).

When was the last time the oil was changed?

Just changed it last week. That mantra is kinda hard to follow, I am a visual kinda girl. ;)

That just sounds like your drive chain might be loose, check that for a really easy fix before getting into the clutch.
