Hey all,
I've been lurking for awhile as I'm looking to purchase my first bike in the near future. I've been pretty much decided on the SV650s (used) and have been casually looking around for one locally. As I've been browsing, I've run across the Buell Lightning XB9Sx and it seems great as well.

In general I'm wanting a nimble bike to have fun with on the weekends and to make my relatively short commute with during the warmer months. A forgiving ride would be nice as well, since I'm bound to make a mistake or two:)

Anyone have any experiences with this bike? Are the two even comparable?
Looking for some seasoned riders to steer a newb in the right direction!

TIA.

Buell has better components all around and a belt drive which is commuter friendly. SV is cheaper and has a nicer engine than the xb9. Price difference is pretty significant.

It's up to you if you can deal with the slightly rough around the edges power plant of the buell to get a nice suspension and belt drive or would rather have the smoother SV engine and if you deem if necessary upgrade the suspension.

The suspension on the SV isn't awful but it has it's faults in comparison.

Hi Oldcabin, Welcome to SVR.

I'm sure you would have fun with either the SV or the Buell.

But if its your first bike you can't beat the cost and the fun factor of the SV.

Good luck!

Do you intend to do your own maintenance, or have a dealer/mechanic do it? Either way, it's going to be more expensive to own the Buell.

And not as cool as an SV :)

Of course I've taken the MSF!
Thanks for the comments, I don't intend to work on the bike much myself (aside from some tinkering). I'll have to think hard about whether the cost difference will be worth it for a first bike.
