Let myself introduce...myself

Hey guys,

I joined the forum a few months ago and was mainly just lurking, but now that i'm starting to occasionally post and am purchasing gear off members i figured it's about time to introduce myself.

Name's Carlton (yes, like the fresh prince of bel aire, and no, you're not the first person to think of that reference) and i bought a new 2008 SV650N this past October. I'm in Chicago, and the winters suck so i only put ~500 miles on my SV before it went into hybernation.

I've wanted a motorcycle since i was 14, but not until now have i had the money (and my parents can't say no anymore). This is my first bike and i love it. bought it new because i'm hoping that i'll still have it in 20+ years and it'll be "my bike" that i've had since the beginning as the original owner. wishful thinking? we'll see. I'll definitely have other additional bikes between now and then, but this will always be the original ;D seems like one of those bikes whose looks will age well.

Anyway i'm originally from CA and hopefully at the end of the riding season next year i'll ride it from Chicago to CA. hoping to do a lot of sport touring on it. Got any luggage you're looking to sell?

Welp, nice to meet all of you and hope to see on on the road.

Welcome. I didn't make that connection because I never watched that show. Oh well. My oldest daughter lives in Chicago but hopefully will be moving back down south soon. I think the snow is getting to her. I'm sure it is for you too with a brand new bike sitting all cold and neglected. :D
Welcome man, your boots are on the way. Check out Newenough.com for some good deals on luggage.
Hi Nox (Carlton), Welcome to SVR. Was the move a work relocation?

Sounds like the trip to CA will be fun.

Have fun and ride safe!

That show was a crack-up! :D

Came out to Illinois 6 years ago for school (U Illinois) and then ended up in Chicago. Can't stand the cold, so hopefully will find my way out of here eventually

Do you live next door to a fedex? :p can't believe that less than an hour after sending you payment (at 10pm, nonetheless) that you shipped the boots. can't wait to get them.

I've been browsing newenough for luggage but figure i should get all the protective gear before i start buying luggage. and since i probably won't be riding until april anway figure i'll try and be patient and pick off any second hand gear from you good folks.

Maybe you will find your way back to CA. ;)

Actually it's across the street and 24 hour. I figured I'd drop them off now so they'd ship tomorrow. Good call on getting all your gear first, you can pick up a lot of stuff from the guys on here.
welcome!
