okay, bash all u want if this is normal because this is my first bike and i do not trust other people with my vehicles so i am unfamiliar with it. anyways, i removed my fuel tank today and decided to take a peek at the air filter and see what she looked like. inside the air box there was a small film of oil coating the bottom of the airbox. is this normal or should i be checking something out? the bike only has 7000 miles on it and only 3 or 4000 when i bought it. it is a 2003 naked by the way.

It most likely means that someone put too much oil in th ebike at some point. You should fill to just below the top lin ein the sight glass with the bike held upright (not on the sidestand!) as you kneel next to it and look in the window.

It could also mean that your rings are bad and you are getting blow-by but the answer is probably just too much oil.

Oh, maybe if it fell over on its side for a while you could wind up with oil up there too but again- not much to worry about. The SV filter should be DRY, by the way- replace it if it is soaked with oil.

Yeah thats normal, the only way I would worry is that if it was pooling up and soaking down the air filter. If it really bothers you just take the airbox off and spray it down with carb cleaner...I don't have a clue if the SV has a pcv valve but that would be what needs to be replaced if it is dumping lots of oil into your airbox.
