I bought a lower triple for my GSXR swap off eBay with the intention of having it powdercoated black. I brought it to a shop where they pulled the old bearing race off, and in the process, it got scratched.

I can feel the scratches, but they aren't too bad. Is it ok to use, or will it rust and cause problems? Will it affect the operation of the steering? Thanks.

It doesn't look that bad. As long as you can still press the race on cleanly and have it sit flush with the lower triple I don't see how it would matter. I can't imagine it will corrode any faster than any other raw metal steering stem...and there are lots of them on the road.

I am no expert, so take it for what it's worth.

Thanks. I just keep seeing removal how-tos that stress not to scratch it and its got me worried, cause I don't want to pay to powdercoat it and then have to get a new one.
