I have been having a lot of problems over the past few months with my charging system. I had my original voltage R/R die after 20,000 miles and replaced the battery as well. It seems that the replacement unit died at less than a 1000 miles.
I now have installed a new R/R from a Honda CR1000 and am getting 13.6 to 13.7 volts at 4000 RPMs. I have dual Aztec headlights with 55w H4 bulbs. With the headlights disconnected I have a 14.4v at 4000 rpms> I would like to see my chraging voltage up around this level when riding.

Is 13.4v to 13.6v good enough?

I'm not an expert, but I do know electrical. ~13.5VDC should be enough to charge a 12V battery. I might be wrong but I think you should see that 13.5VDC at idle and a higher charging voltage at 4k rpm....

Its probably good enough. Did you run the wires from the R/R straight to the battery or use the stock wiring? If you still have problems, you might want to try that.
