Friends,

My older daughter is a film major at Emory University in Atlanta. She just finished her freshman year, and is working this Summer on a film project with a good friend from high school, who is a film major at North Carolina School of the Arts. They have a script and a cast, and they even have a commitment for exhibition. Principal photography is scheduled to start on July 20, 2012. Right now, they are raising money to fund their production. To this end, they have set up a page on kickstarter.com (a web site where people can view videos about startup creative projects, and pledge money to fund them).

If you've ever had the desire to be a movie mogul, or if you'd just like to help some talented young people with their start in the film industry, or if you are simply curious about what this film is about, please visit their kickstarter page, and consider making a contribution.

(You may be wondering why my daughter doesn't get a Summer job and earn the money necessary for this project. That's a fair question. Rest assured that she is working very hard to advance her career. In addition to working on this film, she has a Summer internship at a film / media museum and school in Charlotte -- but it is an unpaid internship.)

Thank you.

FYI -- The students are using kickstarter.com because it is a proven vehicle for project funding. If you are not familiar with this web site, I encourage you to visit it and explore -- particularly the FAQ section. The web site uses amazon.com -- one of the world's most trusted and secure web sites -- to process payments. When you make a pledge, you will immediately get a confirmation email from Amazon Payments. In addition, no project is funded through kickstarter unless and until the minimum financial goal is met; if the fundraising falls short by the date set by the producers, none of the charges are processed. (This is to ensure that contributors are only funding viable projects.) If you already have an account on amazon.com, no additional payment information is necessary.

Update: The students met their minimum production budget late last night. This is exciting news, as it means that principal photography can start on schedule. It also means that any additional contributions will go toward making the production look even better. For example, the producers would like to rent a camera dolly for smoother shots, and are even hoping to rent a crane for a few crane (overhead) shots. These are ambitious goals for a small independent production, but, thanks to the wonderful support that this production has garnered to date, they are within reach.

Thanks, again.
