I got quoted a rate of about $400 (comp+collision+liab 100/300/50, $1000 deductible for collision, $250 ded for comp). The company is Progressive. Without collision the rates are $140 ! what a difference. I didn't get MSF discount as well :x said that they didn't offer it in MN.

Looking for suggestions about ins companies that you like.

Thanks...

Did people miss the fact that he asked for quotes from Minnesota?

Do yourself a favor. Call every insurance company in the book, let them know what you've been quoted so far and see what they get you. Everyone is different, and the insurance companies see to that.

I got quoted around 500 for liability in MN by State farm (cheapest I could find), (23, 1 ticket).
Decided to keep my MI insurance till tabs are up.

Yep, I went with state farm since thats who i have my car and renters insurance with. Mine is new so i have to have full, i have 250 comp and 500 collision and i pay 18 a month...progressive was way higher. i just turned 25 by the way. Oh and with State Farm anyways, Comprehensive is very cheap to lower your deductable, so its very worth lowering that. I'd just call them and ask what the rates would be with 500, 250, and 100. I might go down to 100. With my car, dropping from 1000 to 100 for comp was only like 3 bucks a month i believe. its the collision part that gets spendy.

roshash-- MN rider here. You can *probably* do better than Progressive.

Do what Avid suggested and spend the time getting quotes from many sources. Don't forget your auto/home/boat/renter's insurance provider, as there are many discounts that apply to multiple policies.

Without more info on your age, gender, driving record, credit history, other vehicles, etc., it's difficult to suggest a certain company.

I personally go thru All State-- They have all of my other insurance policies and I do pretty well on all of them with the multi-policy discounts. I think I pay ~280 year for comprehensive ($500 ded) on the SV, don't recall the policy particulars. I do know they offer a very flexible lay away plan when it comes to putting the bike up for the winter and removing the liability coverage. When I want to start riding in the spring, I make a call and I activate my insurance right then and there. There may be better deals out there, but I don't mind paying for good service...

allstate here as well. recently called my agent to see if he could get my rate lower. he did a credit check and said he could get it to 120 a year with full coverage and 500 deductable. im 34 no accidents multiple policies and my zip is not considered metro. used to live on the lower east side and my car insurance dropped in half when I moved. another thing, when i first opened my policy one of the office flunkies opened it for me this last time i asked to talk to the boss and it really made a difference. I would recomend him, if your interested hes dick hauer in woodbury.

I paid $280 per year IIRC (year round coverage, not seasonal) with Farmers.... South Minneapolis 30 years old, 1 ticket and I have everything insured with them (when I lived there 2 years ago) I'm paying slightly more than that with them now in Portland, but not much.

I did shop around a little for a week and found that $140 was the lowest I could get (w/o collision with Progressive; Allstate was slightly lower but they said they would not cover unless I had auto with them!). I am working towards consolidating all my insurance policies in a year which should bring the rates lower.

Thanks for all the information!

I went through state farm.
bodily injury/property damage liability
$250 deductible comprehensive

$147/ year

I bought my bike on credit card so I wouldn't have to pay for collision insurance. The rate I was quoted with collision would have paid for a new bike in 2 years. The money I paid on the credit card interest rate was more than covered by the money I saved by not paying for collision insurance.
