From almost 3 weeks in Chiang Mai, Thailand. I was there for a military exercise. It was tough duty. Other than the 12 hour days, we were billeted in a 5 star hotel, and had no field duty. Here are a few pictures for proof.

The first weekend at the hotel, there was a Suzuki owners' convention. A little Gladius style...

One of the local street denizens (my fiance on the right):

Every day is a barbecue. Between the food and the beer every night I managed to gain about 15lbs!

The one day I managed to get away from work, we went to a local waterfall:

Next door to the worksite was a Yamaha dealer. This FZ1 could be yours for the approximate equivalent of a mere $18,000.00:

The Chiang Mai Traffic Police were responsible for escorting the Commanding General around. I was surprised to see them in moto jackets. Based on the patch above the left breast they were Wayne Gardner brand, full mesh of course. The bikes are Honda CBX750s:

Sorry about the picture quality (or lack thereof). I didn't want to take the new camera, so these were all shot with a 5 year old happy-snappy. I'm going back next week to pick up the fiance. Whoo-HOO!

The waterfall really wasn't that big. In the very bottom right of the picture there is a pair of legs for perspective. But, you could probably track the watercourse all the way up the mountain. That would be a fun hike.

She's really not that kind of girl. I met her while we both worked at the embassy in Bangkok. Nevertheless, I don't think she will cost me nearly as much as the ex-wife!

^^^ +1!!!

Welcome back Jack! Looks like fun, aside from the work and all I mean.
The work wasn't really that bad. It's not like I was burning shitters or anything. It was also quite lucrative. Almost 3 weeks of active duty pay plus per diem means the new suspension bits will be on the way soon.

I also returned to find a nice stack of boxes sitting on my desk at work. Towit:

1. New glass for the CRG mirror I broke when I dropped my bike in my garage taking it off the service stand last month - KOH!

2. New black and gold Pazzo levers to replace the snapped clutch lever - see above.

3. New side-plates for my Arai - I managed to break both of those trying to remove and clean the shield the day before I got my bike.

4. A new pair of Oakleys - just because.

Very nice. I especially like the loop of intestines on the grill.
Actually, that is a local favorite sausage, not intestines, but I have no doubt that intestines are used for the casing, just like it should be. It's very tasty, but I don't want to know what is in it.

The only thing that could make this pic better, is if you told us "Thriller" was playing in the background. ;D
No Thriller, sorry. Those were the Suzuki staff. I tried very hard to get one of the shirts, but no luck. It would have been sweet to have for the MotoGP.

I love Thai food (and Thai people).

Someday, I am going to travel there and eat for 2 weeks.

I want to try every far out local dish that I can.

You are lucky to have had the experience.

How were the beaches? Top ten I would imagine ...

^ I've been to Phuket Island once. There's all kinds of beaches there. Black sand, white sand, blue water, green water... Hawaii has nothing on those Thailand beaches. (Or maybe they do, never been to Hawaii)

Ari: I am I.

RE: Beaches. Like SolidOne said the beaches on the Andaman Sea (on the western side of the pegleg) are beautiful. The ones on the Gulf of Thailand not so much. I didn't make it to the beach this time, but that's fine with me as I am more of a forest/mountain person.

Six Nations: There were a couple RAF officers there, and we went to an Irish bar to watch the first weekend. Because of the time difference, the games were on at 2200 and 2400 Saturday, and 2400 Sunday. Lots of rugby and many pints made 0600 wake up a little rough for this old man, but it was great fun. Go Wales!

RD: You need to get there not just for the culture, blah, blah, but there are little motorcycling gems (smokers) all over the place. You might just find yourself staying there to restore every one.
