It's still looks the same, fuel filter is clean, no issues.

I just did my 1974 Suzuki GT250 tank 2 weeks ago and the POR-15 did it's job perfectly once again.

Follow the directions that come with the kit and you will be fine, it's very easy to do.

Thanks for the writeup, much appreciated. One bit I can add from experience - Don't throw a 1 foot length of small-link chain inside a first gen tank. It sounded like a good idea for the "knock all the loose rust off" stage, but it got hung up somewhere towards the front of the tank. It's caught and just banging against the side of the tank like a bell clanger.

I can't see it, I can't even seem to touch it with a contorted clothes hanger and I'm about to go out and rent a bore scope so I can hopefully get it out...

Probably hung up on one of the vent tubes that runs through the tank or got stuck in between the upper and lower halves of the tank where it comes together to clear the air box. Hope you can get it out, that's a pain.

You guessed it. I went out and bought a bore scope at Costco. I can see it, but I can't get anything hooked on it yet and it's aggravating as hell.

I put the tank in a corner, I'll come back to it in a few days when I'm less incensed...

Doug,

Have you tried electricians fish tape to get that out? Or maybe a magnet tool to get a sense of where it is?

J, thanks for the idea - if I can't get it with clothes hanger wire then I may try the fish tape. I think the hanger wire is a bit better because I can pre-bend it and the bends will stay set while I insert it into the tank.

On my last attempt on Sunday I managed to get the wire so it was in frame of the scope and close to the chain, however by that point it is only vaguely responsive to attempts to maneuver it - kind of like trying to play a video game with the the joystick rotated 90 degrees and turned upside down, while also wearing oven mitts.

If you wanna bring it over this weekend, we can try to fish it out. Lots of tools in the garage and there has to be something that can extract that.

:headbang: great write-up. Something tells me I'll need it soon, so I'm bumping it and subscribing.

Same thing happened to me , so guys don't put a chain to scrape off rust in the 1st gen tank .. Gonna let it there ...

hey guys,

sorry to dig up an old thread. there's good info here and i had planned on following this process, but i wanted to put a warning out there for anyone else that stumbles on this thread after searching google for answers. i used the website mentioned in the original post, advanced rust protection, because it sounded like they had good customer service. this is NOT the case. not only did they not send my POR-15 after taking my money, they never answered the phone when called, nor did they return messages. after a month I got fed up and emailed them demanding a refund unless they wanted to get more trouble than my $60 was worth. finally this elicited a response: an automatically generated e-mail receipt for a refund. no apology or anything human at all. don't give your money to these people
