I have several deep gouges in one side of my fuel tank (the bike was probably dropped at low speed). Is it possible to pull the dents, or do the fuel tanks on SV's have some sort of bladder system inside.

I was also thinking about just using bondo to smooth over the gouge and repaint

do the gouges go through the tank?or are they more of a dent?I would grind the paint away surrounding the gouge, then fill it with a little JB weld, and skim coat it with bondo. You could use just bondo, but JB weld gives it a little more strength.good luck!

Roughen the area with 36 grit and fill with bondo. Modern plastic body fillers are much better than the Bondo of old. No need for the JB Weld.

The tank is single wall and very robust. It's not easy to pound out dents.

no, the gouges don't pierce the tank, they are just sort of deep scratches.

thanks for the info guys!

FYI - the "As seen on TV" Dent popper is not strong enough for the steel on your tank.
i wouldn't use that thing anyways.

i know a guy that has pulled dents on harley tanks before, he might be able to do something.
