I think the signals from the bike is 12 volts. I think what people are telling you is a good idea, just run wires to the stock turn signals and wire it knowing its a 12 volt input.

How much juice is my turn signal getting?
hey guys!
i am fabricating some custom LED turn signals for my hotbodies undertail (cause the stock ones are dumb) but i dont know how much voltage they are getting. i need that so i can make sure i have the right resistors.
i could hook a multimeter up to it.. but i dont have my bike here at work.. and i dont have a multimeter at home. anybody able to help me out?
