Hey all,

Not sure if I actually need help or if I'm just paranoid. But no, I'm not really paranoid, there is an issue with my new-to-me bike. When I accelerate in lower gears I get a lot of chain sound. It's basically when I fully let out the clutch in first until about 3rd or so. It sounds like the chain is hitting something? Or grinding against something every time it makes a full rotation? Anyone had these symptoms? I think the bike is on its original chain and sprocket with 21k miles.

Could be any number of things.

Bad sprocket alignment?
Chain too loose?
Do you see any rub marks anywhere on the swing arm?
Have you got it up on a rear stand to see if you can tell where it might be rubbing?

If it still has the original chain and sprockets, it's probably due for a new chain and sprockets. I usually hope for around 19-20K miles for a chain and many more aggressive riders seem to get around 15K. Two things to check for - Look for any kinks in the chain and check your chain for how low it is hanging. IIRC, more than an inch or so of chain sag means the chain either needs adjustment or replacement.
General rule of thumb - Replace your sprockets when changing the chain or the next chain will not last very long.

Thanks for the input guys. Today a coworker(big moto guy, owns a Suzuki as well) just offered his opinion to spray some wd40 on the chain, it seemed to solve the issue. I will be getting a new chain and sprocket soon, but it seems that the issue is gone for the time being. Thanks again!
