Headlight Wiring

Hi all...I have what is to me a complicated wiring question:

I bought two PIAA 510 lamps to use as my headlights (ion crystal fog for lo-beam and Ion crystal long-range driving for hi-beam). I realized today that the SVS headlights are both on for lo and hi settings, so I became confused as to how I was going to wire them.

The plan is to have the fog lamp aimed slightly down and be the only light on in lo-beam setting, and have the long-range lamp aimed straight ahead and be on in conjunction with the fog lamp for hi setting.

This now seems like it will be quite complicated to do utilizing the stock wiring harness.

One thought I had is to simply wire my own setup....hot leads to each lamp tapping a +12 that only comes on when the ignition is turned on and a ground....and using the stock high beam switch as a simple on/off switch inline with the hi-beam.

Does this sound reasonable? If so, which +12 would you recommend tapping? (I assume one from the original headlight wiring since there will be no other draw on that wire..I just don't know which one)

Or let me know I'm being a fool because it's a definite possibility. (I'm still learning...)

The bike is a 2002 SVS

Ok....I think I have a possibility worked out

Anybody think this will work? Or am I gonna blow up my SV?

Maybe try this:

This should preserve most of the stock wiring as well as the inline fuses (if the diagram is accurate). Your "low beam" should be on as long as the ignition is on and the "high beam" should only be on when switched. The high beam indicator should work, too.

Disclaimer - I'm tired and knocked this out pretty quick, so it could be completely wrong and cause your bike to spontaneously combust if you wire it up without thinking about it...but I think it's ok, haha.

Yeah that seems to make sense to me as well...thanks for the tip.

Do you think the wire I had picked for my ground is actually, a ground? (the one my fancy black lines connect to...)

As for rewiring the plugs...I was essentially just going to do a delete of the stock plugs. I don't plan to cut them off, rather tape them all up and try to find a place to hide them in case I ever need/want to use them for anything. After that, I'll just run some wire to the 2pin connector that comes with the lights.

you can buy a plug that plugs into the stock H4 plug.

Simple...

Connect the wire for the low beam (also negative for high beam) into a generic 4-prong automotive relay (fused distribution block preferably). Connect the positive high beam to the factory high beam wire (yellow for 2nd gen S, probably same for 1st gen).

Ok...I ordered a pair of the connectors tcl recommended. I think I can make the bulbs work using them with the following config:

Thanks to everybody for their help...I think I have it right now but I would still love a confidence booster such as "yup...that should work" If you can't tell I'm kinda worried about breaking my poor SV.
