Replacing my handlebars, do i need to drill holes for the controls. When i took the controlls off my previous aftermarket bars they had the holes drilled but i don’t remember seeing tabs in the drilled hole. Thanks in advance

Could be a previous owner ground off the "tabs" or "nubs" on the controls so that they didn't have to drill holes in a replacement handlebar.
Only way to know is to visually check the controls.

Personally I would rather drill holes than grind down the tabs.

Don't drill holes in your bars, not only do you limit the controls placement, but many handlebar manufactures say do not! Just file down the tabs on your controls but leave it a little proud so when you tighten down the controls it grips well to the bar. Not much tightening is needed, grips well!

yeah and then when you twist the throttle you can twist the whole pod...
or rotate it to a position where it interferes with the brake.

I guess if you you past max throttle to the stop position and crank down on the throttle you may get it to move. Or maybe hard braking and death gripping the throttle somehow. Its takes alot of effort to move, even under max nm.

Edit, I agree with you, real and could happen.
I'm going only on my personal experience. I've done 4 different bars and over 26k miles no problems with slipping.
My advice depends on leaving the tap short of flush, not to mention making sure its tightened correctly, lot of room for error.

My bike is hours away from me for now and i dont remember seeing any tabs. I gotta go check again. If they were grinded down im assuming ill be fine since ive never had problems with them moving before. Everywhere i look on this subject there seems to be mixed answers lol. Thanks for your input guys

The reason I went the grind tab route was the convenience of switching out bars and the warnings from manufactures.
I dont think drilling a small hole is anything to worry about, liability issues with manufacturers only.
I'm with neimis, mad, if you do still have tabs, drill, its safer.
