This is how I wired the sensor but nothing happens when I spin the front wheel. I don’t have the speed healer in but I figured that I would get something from the speedo but nothing. Its stays at zero.

brown = VCC goes to orange/red
blue = Ground goes to black/white
black = output goes to pink

Here are some more question though.

1. How close does the magnate have to be to the sensor?
2. Which direction should the magnate be facing when in front of the sensor. I mounted in the rotor with the magnate being attracted to the sensor. Is that right?
3. What am I missing?[/QUOTE]

Hey, that's my bike !!! ;D

1. Make the gap 5mm
2. Magnets should be facing the sensor in the direction where they are attracted to it.
3. Nothing that I can see. You wiring is correct. i would suspect you have the magnets the wrong way around.

Your setup is perfect and the wiring is good to but I guess my magnates must suck because I had to get really close like 3-5 mm. Not sure I have to go back out there and measure just for my notes but Interesting enough I had to set up the magnate so that it was being repulsed from the sensor and I got a signal on the speedometer.

Once I got signal I finished the soldering wrapped the wires then took it out for a ride with my GPS to check speed difference.

I'm using the this speed healer http://www.12oclocklabs.com/p_sdrd.htm. It worked easy enough.

So I want to just say a big thanks too all on this post and this forum. I have gotten really good information and everyone has been open to helping out. I have to say that there are some good guys on here.

So first thanks for that drawing (what did you use to draw that)

And second here are the buckets I ordered, and some how I forgot to order the magnates. These are 3/8 " for 1/4 " magnates.

Should I go bigger and if so what size?

Anybody knows the solution to this issue?

I'm having the same problem. :( I'm actually using a 2006 gsxr 750 (12 holes) front end. I don't really care if speed is off by 10mph or so, I just want to know I'm doing the speed limit. :p

Hey that's my thumb. :).

The way to fix this the easy way is just to make one magnate holder to fit one of the holes above then get a speed healer, thats it. Oh yeah don't forget the bracket to hold the sensor.

I got everything set up, all I need is a way to mount the magnets and I'm done.

magnets

cups

No, you use 8 magnets so you don't need a speedo healer

I had pretty much the same problem, the cups everyone else ordered were too small for the holes in the rotors that I got with my 08-09 front end and there is 10 holes VS 8.

Measure the exact size of the hole in your rotor and find the cups and magnets that will fit in the links I posted.

As far as the problem with a different number of holes, you can do the speedo heeler or just leave every third button open.

With the magnets not perfect spaced it will be a little glitchy at slow speeds but it smooths out once you get going fast enough to make a difference.

It's the 1/2

What size did you end up using?

I just measured, and is a little bit smaller than 1/2, so it looks like those won't fit, and if it does it will be a very tight fit.
I didn't end up using any, I just got lazy and stuck them to the side of the rotor. They stay on pretty good under 90-100mph and a bit of glue would probably keep them from moving at all. I planned on ordering the 1/2 ones and try them, but I've been too lazy since they worked :sbmfacepalm:. If they end up being a hair too big I will just hone out the button holes a bit or stick with glueing the on the rotor.

I just remeasured my 08-09 rotor buttons with a micrometer and the inside diameter was 11mm for the middle part and 12mm on the shoulder (not that your will be the same as mine). Also I thought to 06 750 had 8 buttons, do you have aftermarket rotors?

My paint skill aren't the best but to show you how I measured mine and the red area is where I will probably have to remove about .35mm off each side to make the 1/2" cups fit since they should be about 12.7mm.

I need some help with this as well.

Info:

1993 GSXR750 front end
Sensor - Cherry GS101201 Gear tooth sensor
5 magnets drilled into rotor evenly spaced
magnets are 3" from axle

So I cant get any reading on my speedo at all. I have tried both sides of the magnet (attracting / opposing).

Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong? What spacing do I need for accurate readings? Correct number of magnets?

Thanks in advance!

If it's a gear tooth sensor it probably has the magnet inside the sensor.
This means that it will not detect other magnets and needs a magnetic material instead of the magnets.
Try putting a steel bolt in the holes instead of the magnets.

I guess i don't under stand this. Why would this only work with a ferrous material? there is a magnet inside the sensor because it attracts to bolts as well as the magnets in the rotor.

wouldn't the same sensor attract to magnets the same as any ferrous material? whats the differences...?

D'Ecosse - how many magnets will i need? what radius for accuracy? is there some kind of formula i can use for calculations?

Thanks!

What made you select that sensor ?

you need 4 magnets at 90 deg - radius is immaterial, as long as spaced at 90's

You might to reverse the polarity to see if it might work
Also - what is your spacing?

Try just holding a magnet and flash it back & forth across the sensor face and you will be able to tell if going to work.

Did you get the wires connected correctly for power, ground & signal?
