GSXR forks and other parts??

584 Views 5 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Z3n
I have noticed that alot of people swap out their SV forks for GSXR forks as well as shocks. Are the GSXR parts more superior? What are the benefits to swapping these parts out as far as regular street riding is concerned.

I thought I have seen a forum about what parts are needed for the swap(s) can anyone link them here for me. Are they big jobs to tackle on your own? I would like to have more info on it if I were to do it in the future.

Thanks everyone!

No, the parts suck and everyone who does it hates it.

Use the search. Do your research. Here's another site: http://www.gregoryli.com/2007/06/gsx-r-front-end-swap-parts.html

It may also be worthwhile to try the forum with the word "modifications" in it.

This topic has been covered a thousand times.
Thanks for the link and being so "uncooperative"!

Exactly my point, the topic has been coverd a thousand times but why, in your all knowing opinion do you think that is?
There are ups and downs in doing the fork swap. The parts aren't better, the design is more modern.

The concensus among the racer types is that stock forks with correct springs, emulators (like the Traxxion emulator and drop-in damper rod set) and the proper oil is so close to modified and properly set up GSXR forks that the change to GSXR forks isn't worth the trouble.
well, the Gxxr forks are adjustable where as the stock SV forks are not...

and they look cool!! lol

Because people don't know how to search and are too lazy to take some time to sit down and consider mods to their bikes?

Look, here's the 2c breakdown:

The parts are better because they're more modern, they use better designs, higher quality components, cartridge forks rather than damper rod forks, and they're lighter. The other advantage is in the higher quality/better braking system that comes with the GSX-Rs.

An SV is a budget bike, they skimped on things like the suspension and braking system. It's goes from good to very good with the appropriate upgrades (pads, lines, proper care of the brake fluid), but to get from good to top notch brakes, you're best using the higher quality parts that are found on a GSX-R. All of the compatability/etc information can be found in the other forum or via the link i gave you.
