GSXR Fork Information / Permutations

Here is a summary of the different models of USD Radial forks used on the various Suzuki models.
Hopefully, this will concentrate all the dimensional information on the most popular SV/GSXR fork conversion possible configurations.

Let's start with the matrices for the dimensions of the various fork models:

Of course, there are the non-radial USDs used on the 01-03 750 and 01-02 1000 but the Radial versions seem to be the most popular, so that is the focus of this post.

So - looking at the primary area of interest for GSXR Radial Forks:

2003/04 1000
Gold/black inner tubes; gold calipers
300mm rotors.
850 springs
32mm offset; 54mm lower clamp
Right offset ignition top clamp, 28mm bore

2005/06 1000
Bronze/black inners; black calipers
310mm rotors
950 springs
30mm offset, 54mm lower clamp
Center ignition top clamp, 28mm bore

2004/05 600/750 (same)
gold/chrome legs, gold calipers
300mm rotors
850 springs
30mm offset, 54mm lower clamp
Right offset ignition top clamp, 25mm bore

Calipers:

03/04 1000 and 04/05 600/750 (fit 300mm rotors std)

* The 03 1000 calipers are 4 pads per caliper - look the same as the two-pad variant
No interchangeable re pads however

Caliper/Rotor Matrix:

Calipers can be utilized from all the models above, by using spacers* per this matrix.
* Note that although for some sizes it says N/A, this means the combo would be too tall;
however, you could actually machine the caliper (or fork leg stanchion) as opposed to a spacer

Triple Clamps:

You can mix & match a bit here:
The ideal top clamp I believe would be the 04/05 600/750 clamp
This has ignition offset to the right (same as SV and more conducive to the Vee shape of the front of the speedo for naked)
It has a 30mm offset and a 25mm bore.
Direct fit on 04/05 l600/750 lower triple clamp/forks
To fit on 06+ 600/750 forks/lower triple, bore stem hole to 28mm
To fit on 05/06 1000 bottom triple, bore stem to 28mm

If you have no access to machining, then the 05-06 1000 top clamp will fit directly on the 06+ 600/750 steering stem. This clamp has ignition 'straight ahead. The steering lock WILL lock, albeit with the wheel straight ahead, as opposed to the conventional full left position.

06+ 600/750 top clamps obviously 'fit' their own forks/bottom triple, however, the ignition is offset to the left; it requires some machining of the ignition module to avoid interference with the frame on the left side and the steering lock will not function without drilling frame. This makes it a less ideal choice.

Bottom clamp:
03/04 1000 has 32mm offset, 54mm bottom fork dia, and 25mm stem
05/06 1000 has 30mm offset 54mm bottom fork dia and 28mm stem
04/05 600/750 has 30mm offset, 54mm bottom fork dia, and 25mm stem
06+ 600/750 has a 30mm offset, 53mm bottom fork dia, and 28mm stem

Note that 06+600/750 forks are 53mm at the bottom clamp diameter - the others above are 54mm; so consider that as you wish to mix/match bottom triples & forks.

Axles:

The wheels are comparable fitment for all 01+ GSXR;
However, the axles change with the fork generations;

For the first group of forks per the caliper table above (03-04 1000 or 04-05 600/750)
uses an axle & collar nut (same as SV1K actually)
Note that there is no additional wheel/axle spacer required.

For the second group of forks (05+ 1000 or 06+ 600/750)
the axle has a threaded bolt, rather than a collar nut, with a separate spacer that goes between the wheel & right fork leg.

Steering Bearings:

All GSXR forks in the range above have 30/55/17 top & bottom bearings.
All Gen 2 SV650 and SV1K are the same sizes also
Gen 1 SV650 is the same bottom bearing but requires a special top bearing from TWF Racing.

Wheels:

All GSXR wheels after SRAD will fit any GSXR forks described above
The rotors change sizes (and fitment) however

Mix n Match Capability for Wheels/Rotors:

01-04 1000 and 01-05 600/750 and SV1K all are the same wheel dimensionally;
Will take 300mm rotors from 03-04 1000, 04-05 600/750;
Will take 310mm rotors from SV1K;
Will take 320mm rotors from any 96-03 600/750 or 01-02 1000 or TL, or Hayabusa

05-08 1000 and 06-07 600/750 take 310mm rotors only, from these years of the wheel only.

09+ 1000 and 08+ 600/750 take 310mm rotors only - note that these rotors are NOT compatible with the group immediately above & vice versa.

I'll expose myself as a GSXR swap noob. I think I have done my research and decided what I want. But this post isn't about that. This post is about a potential mistake in the OP of this thread.

The chart lists 600/750 K6/K7 as being the same. Further down in pictures, the 600 K6+ is shown as gold and having 900 springs. The next picture shown is a 750 K6+ and black forks are shown and 1000 springs are listed.

So am I reading this wrong or is the post wrong?

ok so im tryin to buy a 06 gsxr front end for my 05 sv 650. will i need a 04-05 gsx1000 top triple for the steering lock and for the center ignition? [/qupte]
If you want those features (steering and center ignition) then you would want 05/06 1000 top clamp (04 & 05 are different models on the 100)
If you want 'right' side ignition, you want 04/05 600/750 clamp but it needs to be modified with the stem hole over-bored to 28mm

will i need a new master cylinder for the brakes?
Ideally, yes - the GSXR ones are good cost-effective choice to match the new calipers.

thanks for the quick replies. im reading up on a lot of this stuff and its a lot of info to digest. if i wanted to swap the 06 gsxr front end onto my sv what problems would i run into besides the ignition and steering lock? from what i read other than those it seems like a pretty straight forward swap.

I recently did a fork swap on an SV1000, which uses the same front wheel as the 01-05 GSXR you mention. I was told to use the 06-07 axle. You'll also need to do something to get the brake rotor diameter right...

Great info D'Ecosse. After 4 yrs of racing with the stock front end on my 05 Sv650 I've swapped the front from my 05 GSX-R600 yesterday and going to try it this weekend. My question is about steering dampers, what do you recommend. I have Attack triples upper and lower. The ohlins damper from the gixxer is mounted fork leg to OEM threaded hole at steering head so not transferable. Any ideas?? thanks in advance!

Maybe they're no longer carrying them. I've bought two from them, one for the 05 and another for the 07 (both the same of course). I'll call them tomoroow to see what they can offer.

What's the best way to contact Zoran?? I was going to send a PM but doesn't seem to recognise the name....THANKS AGAIN MAN!

Hello here! As I banged up my front fork last week I need to repair the damage to make it drivable again. Of course I am going to use this opportunity and fit a GSXR fork to my SV from 2004.

On my silver SVS I would prefer a black fork like the one on the 2006 GXSR750. I can actually get a 750 06 front end locally, so thats good !

For as far as I understand the chart in the OP it should be a easy fit as long as I find all items of the same model GSXR750 of 06, right? This means: complete fork, triples, wheel, fender and brakes... all of a GSXR750 from 2006 and I'm good to go ?!

On 06 front end is a direct fit, the only slight exception is that with the 06 top triple you'll lose your steering lock.

If you want your steering lock you could maybe get an 04/05 GSXR 600/750 upper triple and get the stem bored out from 25mm to 28mm. Then you'll get a fully functioning steering lock.

Thanks for that gjscott, I had just figured out that the 04/05 would be the ideal fork swap for ease of plug and play, but of the wrong color. This slight modification on the upper triple of a 04/05 to fit a to 06/07 fork would result the ideal combination for me... small modification in my book!

Now I have to get all the parts together, as the 'complete' fork I have in mind is missing the wheel, calipers an fairing.

I'm going with the following setup:
Black forks = GSXR750 06/07
lower triple already on fork = GSXR750 06/07
Top triple = GSXR600/750 04/05 should fit 750 06/07 (small mod from 25mm to 28mm)
front axel and fairing = GSXR750 06/07
front wheel = any GSXR ???
calipers = GSXR750 06/07 Black Tokico
break disk 310mm = GSXR750 06/07
clipons = TL1000s of CBR954/929

Can somebody confirm the compatibility of any gxs front wheel on a GSXR750 axel in a GSXR750 fork

That would be great, especially for the front wheel... as I am not able to find a GSXR750 front wheel in black...

I did, however, find someone selling TL1000 wheels saying they are suitable for GSXR aswell. They seem to look like the wheels on my SV and are silver.... Would TL (or SV) wheels fit a GSXR750 06/07 front end???
