Can I use all of the hardware from my second gen's steering stem for my swap to 08 1000 forks with an 04-05 top triple? Bearings, spacers, lock nuts, steering head nut, etc...

I would assume the only thing I couldn't use would be the head nut?

I believe it all works, including the head nut.

New bearings wouldn't be a bad idea.

Ok so I have an 01 GSXR-1000 wheel and front end. I am going to 06 GSXR-1000 forks.

I got a new axle to match the forks. I know that will work with the wheel.

I got an 08 R6 master cylinder + a set of 04-06 R1 calipers that I'll be using. Same as 06+ R6. Zoran at TWF is making me a set of spacers for the calipers to run the 320mm discs on the 01 wheel.

My question is what size and length bolts do I need to get to mount the calipers. Does anyone know if M10 x 1.25 x 80 are correct?

How are you using 08 1000 forks with 04/05 top triple? Are you having the top triple center hole enlarged to 28mm, and also offset 2mm?

Pretty sure the offset has to match upper and lower for them to line up. Not sure tho on mixing and matching how that works.

http://bikearama.com/theory/motorcycle-rake-trail-explained/

Motorcycle offset: The distance between a line drawn through the centre of the steering stem/ headstock axis and the centre line of the front fork tubes. Typically the offset inversely affects trail, if offset increases then the trail will decrease.

Motorcycle trail: The distance on the ground between a straight line drawn through the center of the front wheel spindle and a line drawn through the center of the headstock axis. The greater the trail distance, then the greated the straight line stability but the harder it is to make the bike corner.

To fix any issues with steering you can adjust the distance the forks are higher in the triples. Raising the triples on the tube adds stability but reduces cornering. Lowering the triple on the tubes speeds cornering but you loose stability at high speeds. Generally you want to lower the front to get it to corner. If it feels twitchy you can raise it up a little to add stability.

Seems like too much work and money. Just going to try to get them to stop before they drill it and buy an 08 top triple. I wanted the lock to work when the wheel is turned but if it's straight on then it shouldn't be that big of a deal I guess.

I'm having a machinist drill out the hole to 28mm but I thought that the offset was the same for the 04-05 600 and 06+ 1000?
You could create a new stem hole at the correct diameter and offset - when the machine shop makes the new 28mm hole (and it would be machined in a mill, not drilled) they just need to find the original center, then offset the new center by 2mm further towards the front. (they might have to correspondingly open up the diameter of the bottom side where it sits on the upper locknut - not sure if that is necessary without looking at it)
Note that if offsetting the new 28mm hole forward by 2mm however, there would be a tiny part of the arc of the original 25mm hole that will protrude outside of the new 28mm hole (because you are adding 1.5mm to the radius but moving it up 2mm) - but I would think that should be inconsequential to the fit as the majority of the arc will position the stem correctly

Here is illustration of that ........

Thanks for the explanation. I think I'm just going to find an 08 triple though. Just realized that I won't have any lock because the ignition is to the left... Now I'm just wondering how much of the ignition needs to be trimmed. I can just use a dremel or file for that though, right? Don't see the need to have it super accurate.

Do your research kids...

What do i need to do to fit an 11-13 front wheel to 06-07 600 forks and axle?
Is it a simple wheel bearing swap? Or an axle swap, and if so, will 11-13 axle fit the 06-07 forks?
thanks in advance, Greg.
To my understanding the bearings are the same diameter. You will need the same yr axle but I do believe 06 & up the axle is the same. Some one correct me if I am wrong!
