Here is a summary of the different models of USD Radial forks used on the various Suzuki models.
Hopefully, this will concentrate all the dimensional information on the most popular SV/GSXR fork conversion possible configurations.

Let's start with the matrices for the dimensions of the various fork models:

Acknowledgments to Sam over at TL zone for initiating the primary chart creation and to all those who provided the data for it.

This excellent illustration courtesy of jeff721 will help indicate to what the measurements in the chart refer:

Of course, there are the non-radial USDs used on the 01-03 750 and 01-02 1000 but the Radial versions seem to be the most popular, so that is the focus of this post.

So - looking at the primary area of interest for GSXR Radial Forks:

2003/04 1000
Gold/black inner tubes; gold calipers
300mm rotors.
850 springs
32mm offset; 54mm lower clamp
Right offset ignition top clamp, 28mm bore

Image

2005/06 1000
Bronze/black inners; black calipers
310mm rotors
950 springs
30mm offset, 54mm lower clamp
Center ignition top clamp, 28mm bore

Image

2004/05 600/750 (same)
gold/chrome legs, gold calipers
300mm rotors
850 springs
30mm offset, 54mm lower clamp
Right offset ignition top clamp, 25mm bore

Image

2006+ 600
gold/ chrome leg, black calipers
310mm rotors
900 springs
30mm offset, 53mm lower clamp
Left offset ignition top clamp, 28mm bore

Image

2006+ 750
black/ bronze leg
310mm rotors
1000 springs
30mm offset, 53mm lower clamp
Left offset ignition top clamp, 28mm bore

Image

Calipers:

03/04 1000 and 04/05 600/750 (fit 300mm rotors std)

* The 03 1000 calipers are 4 pads per caliper - look the same as the two-pad variant
No interchangeable re pads however

Image

All other GSXR models

Image

Yamaha Monoblock (R6)

Image

Caliper/Rotor Matrix:

Calipers can be utilized from all the models above, by using spacers* per this matrix.
* Note that although for some sizes it says N/A, this means the combo would be too tall;
however, you could actually machine the caliper (or fork leg stanchion) as opposed to a spacer

Image

Triple Clamps:

You can mix & match a bit here:
The ideal top clamp I believe would be the 04/05 600/750 clamp
This has ignition offset to the right (same as SV and more conducive to the Vee shape of the front of the speedo for naked)
It has a 30mm offset and a 25mm bore.
Direct fit on 04/05 l600/750 lower triple clamp/forks
To fit on 06+ 600/750 forks/lower triple, bore stem hole to 28mm
To fit on 05/06 1000 bottom triple, bore stem to 28mm

If you have no access to machining, then the 05-06 1000 top clamp will fit directly on the 06+ 600/750 steering stem. This clamp has ignition 'straight ahead. The steering lock WILL lock, albeit with the wheel straight ahead, as opposed to the conventional full left position.

06+ 600/750 top clamps obviously 'fit' their own forks/bottom triple, however, the ignition is offset to the left; it requires some machining of the ignition module to avoid interference with the frame on the left side and the steering lock will not function without drilling frame. This makes it a less ideal choice.

Bottom clamp:
03/04 1000 has 32mm offset, 54mm bottom fork dia, and 25mm stem
05/06 1000 has 30mm offset 54mm bottom fork dia and 28mm stem
04/05 600/750 has 30mm offset, 54mm bottom fork dia, and 25mm stem
06+ 600/750 has a 30mm offset, 53mm bottom fork dia, and 28mm stem

Note that 06+600/750 forks are 53mm at the bottom clamp diameter - the others above are 54mm; so consider that as you wish to mix/match bottom triples & forks.

Axles:

The wheels are comparable fitment for all 01+ GSXR;
However, the axles change with the fork generations;

For the first group of forks per the caliper table above (03-04 1000 or 04-05 600/750)
uses an axle & collar nut (same as SV1K actually)
Note that there is no additional wheel/axle spacer required.

Image

For the second group of forks (05+ 1000 or 06+ 600/750)
the axle has a threaded bolt, rather than a collar nut, with a separate spacer that goes between the wheel & right fork leg.

Image

Steering Bearings:

All GSXR forks in the range above have 30/55/17 top & bottom bearings.
All Gen 2 SV650 and SV1K are the same sizes also
Gen 1 SV650 is the same bottom bearing but requires a special top bearing from TWF Racing.

Wheels:

All GSXR wheels after SRAD will fit any GSXR forks described above
The rotors change sizes (and fitment) however

Image

Mix n Match Capability for Wheels/Rotors:

01-04 1000 and 01-05 600/750 and SV1K all are the same wheel dimensionally;
Will take 300mm rotors from 03-04 1000, 04-05 600/750;
Will take 310mm rotors from SV1K;
Will take 320mm rotors from any 96-03 600/750 or 01-02 1000 or TL, or Hayabusa

05-08 1000 and 06-07 600/750 take 310mm rotors only, from these years of the wheel only.

09+ 1000 and 08+ 600/750 take 310mm rotors only - note that these rotors are NOT compatible with the group immediately above & vice versa.

Ok, sorry for the few posts in a row ;D

I'm able to post images now.

This is the GSXR 600 K6 fork:
Image

This is the K4 triple clamp:

And these are the callipers:

One told me that the K6 fork will fit in the K4 triple clamp, with modifications... Is that true? K4 and K6 have the same top fork dia, and 54mm vs 53mm bottom fork dia... that should be able to make it fit right?

#995 ·
Those aren't K4 triples. All 04 GSXRs have the ignition on the right. I suspect those are 06-09 600/750 but I could be wrong.

#996 ·
You sir are correct ;) It's the original triple clamp from those GSXR 600 K6.

Now I've got 2~3 options:
  1. Buy a GSXR 1000 K3/K4 upper part, there the stock lock should fit (right?!?)
  2. Buy another lock which fits in this triple clamp (and my SV1000N)
  3. If possible, modify current stock lock to make it fit in this K6 triple clamp
What would you guys/gals do?

#997 ·
03/04 GSXR1000 has 32mm offset while 06-09 600/750 has 30mm offset, so it won't fit right.

You can bolt your ignition switch onto that (might have to oval the holes, I forget), but you won't be able to lock the steering (unless you do something like drill a hole in the frame, I wouldn't do that).

If you get an 05/06 GSXR1000 top triple, you'll have a steering lock with the bars straight. That's the only option using all factory parts.

Sorry for my late reaction :-\ Bought another house so another priorities...

I've looked up the measurements and indeed, I can use my 600 K6 set with a 1000 K5/K6 top triple.

I got the black tokico calipers, so no spacers needed for that, right?
Any advice for spacers? Does my factory front wheel and axle need spacers?

You can use a 04/05 GSXR600 top triple but need the stem hole bored. Don't remember the size off the cuff. For street, I think it's a great idea. I'm a little cautious about removing that much material from a race bike; I have no facts to back this up. Maybe you could add more material at the back to regain strength

#999 ·
approximately 28mm

if you're having boring done, you can also use an 01/02 GSXR1000 or 00-03 GSXR750 triple and have it offset bored

I just bought a used 2005 sv650s that has a 2004 gsxr600 front end mod installed by a previous owner. I'm trying to figure out what my options for steering dampers are, as I've had high speed wobble a couple times. I'd love to be able to buy an affordable OEM stock gsxr damper which are available on ebay for $30, but I'm pretty sure it won't affix to the frame of the sv, which I think lacks the connection point. I've searched for "damper" in this thread but haven't quite found a clear result. What are my options? I'm waiting to hear back from Scott's to learn about their damper compatibility with my particular setup, but it would be great if I could avoid spending $500 if the OEM part can work.

you can run the Scotts, it requires the GSXR nut and nut holder and then the SV frame mount

are your forks sticking up through the triples at all? what size front tire?

Re: GSXR Fork Information / Permutations - Speedo Kit

All I have been able to come up with for the speedo correction is a guy Jim at socalsv's which I couldn't find anywhere and whose verizon email got bounced back. I have also heard of just getting the Digikey and making the magnets myself.
Is there still a source for the kit, or the fancy, plug and play caliper button/magnets pre machined?

Thanks in advance if anyone knows of something.

Have all my other parts in place.

So, I want to rebuild my calipers, but am unsure which year they are.
Seller said they were 750 K8 units, but visually they are identical from K6-l0.
According to ronayers the partnumbers are different for K8+ and the rebuild kits are different as well.
Is there any way to identify which exact calipers I have?

Hi all. Lots of info here. I want to do the swap on my gen2 as painless as possible. Plug and play style. I have a line on a 06/07 600/750 complete front end. Sounds like I just need a 05 1000 top clamp to make it work. Aside from ignition, speedo and bar clearance what else do I need to consider?

Thanks for pointing that out. Mine is an “s”. Hope it goes smooth. I don’t mind shaving off a little material here and there or re routing things. Replacing cables would suck. Once I get everything together I am doing it at my mechanics house in his home garage. His time is valuable and I don’t want to waste it because I did not do my homework. Cheers!

sounds like you're putting the bars in basically stock SV location so stock SV throttle and clutch cables should be fine

I'd recommend upgrading the GSXR lines to stainless. You might need slightly longer than stock GSXR lines due to the risers too.

Question for clarity. Just bought a complete 04/05 GSXR600 front end. Wheel, Brakes, forks, both triples, controls etc.

I've seen comments that this will bolt right up no problems. I've also read that it will need to be bored from 25mm to 28mm. The need to be machined is ONLY required if I'm trying to use a 28mm top triple correct (gixxer1000,06+gixxer600/750) correct? Which should not be required as I purchased everything intact and complete.

05/06 GSXR1000 top clamp gives you an ignition lock with the bars straight. There are no options using unmodified factory parts that put the lock to the right to let them lock left.

I have a TopYokes triple on my SV. Quality is good but it tends to take longer than he says it will. Tell him the combo you want and he'll do it, I don't think he even charged me extra.

If your bike is an N you can probably get him to put mounts for the gauges on it too.

04/05 are two different generations of GSXR1000.

04/05 600/750 top triple won't fit on either, because the stem hole size is 25mm vs 28mm on both 03/04 and 05/06 1000. the offset is also different on 03/04 1000 vs 04/05 600/750.

03/04 GSXR1000 has the steering lock in the right place for a 2nd gen, 05/06 has it centered which results in steering lock with the bars centered

all of those generations are a little on the short side for the SV. your best option is 06+ 600/750. note that there are some significant changes after 06, but they're all good options: 08 got separate high/low speed compression damping, 11 got a smaller axle, there are various different rotor bolt patterns, etc
