So I'm new to this what would be the easiest an fastest swap for a gen 1 sv650 I bought one wrecked n the front an all the stock stuff is no good except the wheel an brake equipment

 

all the swaps are equal difficulty on gen 1, you need to replace the top bearing. 05/06 1000 has centered ignition which gives you a normal steering lock, using that on 06+ 600/750 forks/lower triple will work quite well.

 

Just a quick question. I'm gathering parts and have forks, triples from a 2005-2006 GSXR 1000.

My question is the wheel/rim. If I understand the chart correctly, you can only use the front rim from that model year and cannot use an sv1000 rim either. Is this correct?

 

You can use any wheel 06 and up and sv1k wheel.

 

You can run any 01+ GSXR wheel.

If you're using stock 05/06 calipers without spacers, you need 310mm rotors. Zoran (twfracing.com) sells caliper spacers, if you wanted to run 320mm rotors you would need 5mm spacers. If you want to run 300mm rotors you can either run gold calipers with spacers, or have black calipers machined.

01-04 1000, 01-05 600/750, SV1000 all use the same wheel. The only 310mm rotors that fit this wheel are from SV1000. 320mm rotors come from 01/02 1000, 01-03 600/750, and I believe some older bikes as well - not sure. 300mm rotors are from 03/04 1000, 04/06 600/750. Not compatible with either other group of rotors.

06/07 600/750, 05-08 1000 all use the same wheel. This has thinner spokes than above, lighter, and uses 310mm rotors. Not compatible with either other group of rotors.

08+600/750, 09+1000 all use the same wheel. This uses twisted spokes, and uses 310mm rotors. Not compatible with either other group of rotors.


In addition, R6 calipers bolt up to GSXR forks with the right spacers. Brake info is in this chart in the first post:

Been researching the front end swap for years now, but I'm finally getting around to doing it myself. I have a set of 07 600 forks and am looking at calipers and master cylinders now. I understand that 06-09 600/750 or 05-08 1000 brakes are the same, correct? Also, would the 10 and up brembo calipers fit the forks? And if yes to the brembos, what diameter rotor? Still 310? Sorry for so many questions. I'm just trying to put on the newest calipers and mc that I can find.

 

I think the Brembo's would fit right up if you had 310mm rotors, but I don't know anyone who has tried it yet. Also, they seem to go for quite a bit on eBay, otherwise I would probably try it.

 

R6 calipers will work as well. I think the chart calls for 2mm spacers but on my dad's SV1000 the pad is fully on the 310mm rotor with no spacers, 07 750 forks.

 

Hey guys, I found an entire 07' GSXR 600 front end for sale.

My question is, do the 07' GSXR 600 clip-ons clear my motorcycle? (07' SVS) I'm also going to raise the front up with a 120/70 tire. Will this clear or do I need clip ons from an 04'-05' GSXR600?

I'll be using a 04'-05' GSXR 600 upper triple clamp or possibly an 05'-06' GSXR 1000 upper triple clamp so I don't have to machine the stem to 28mm.

With a SVS you'll have issues with any clipons that aren't riser clipons, you can probably get by but you most likely have issues with at least the brake lever hitting the fairing.

 

Can someone say which is better to get for a 195lb rider?

GSXR 600 forks? 750? 1000?

Also, I'm assuming bearings and races need to be from the GSXR front end for an 2nd gen. I.e. don't re-use the SV bearings/races.

 

From 2004 the 600 and 750 use the same front end. They may also on older ones but I can't confirm that.

The bearings are the same between Gen2 SVs and GSXRs

 

Same front ends but different springs. I would suggest 0.90 springs for you and that is what the 06/07 600s came with. I'm not up to speed on what other years have.

 

Anyone have any info on the 2008/2009 GSXR 600/750 fork measurements?

 

They measure out like the 06-07. I have 09 forks on mine.

 

i have no issues with my 05 gsxr clip ons hitting the fairing.

 

Anyone have any idea whether a front fender from am 04/05 GSXR will fit onto 06/07 front forks?

 

it should fit fine. The later model fenders look better though

Nope. Not enough material there. Besides, that'd be too narrow to fit a wheel and disks, etc. between the forks.

 

So what is everybody doing to mount the SV650 speedometer onto these GSXR clamps/triples?

 

I believe you can get a bracket from Aztek if you want to mount naked gauges with a GSXR upper triple.
I think many fab up a custom bracket and utilize the ignition or fork clamp bolts.

 

ok so ive looked thru ALOT of info about this swap. i should have a complete 05 gsxr setup in my hands soon from a freind. triple,forks, wheel, brakes, whole 9 yards.

what are my options on a steering stop with out going to srad triple and having to run a srad wheel setup? will the clip ons hit the tank with the 05 setup?

 

I bolted a block to the head stock bracket that acts as a steering stop on the forward facing side of the GSXR steering stop tab.

I have 04-05 gsxr 600 front forks. What is the situation with wheels.

If I get a different wheel all I have to worry about is what spacer is needed for the brake rotors and calipers?

What about the bore size differences etc.?

I have the gold calipers from the 04-05 gsxr 600 as well.

What would be the process to use the 96-00 gsxr 600 wheel, since that wheel uses a 320 rotor and has a different rotor spacing of 134 vs 132 on the 04-05 gsxr 600 wheel?
