Yesterday I changed the air filter, spark plugs, and oil on my '00 SVN and rode it around for an hour or so, but when I got up this morning to go to school, I jumped on the bike only to realize that my gauges and signals don't work. They worked fine all of yesterday, both before and after I had finished my maintenance but not this morning. The signal fuse is blown but I can't find what is causing the short. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

First, check the usual rub spots in the wiring loom- under the seat and around the headstock. Then, see if you can trigger the fuse blowing- ie, turn indicators on and off, etc. There's far too much on that fuse though, it's a pretty horrible bit of design as far as giving multiple safety systems a single point of failure goes, so it's hard to pin down. IIRC mine was a disintegrating indicator but there's loads of possibilities. Hope you find it!

Thanks for the well wishes, I'm getting frustrated because as far as I can tell, there don't seem to be any obvious signs of wear on any of the wires. I'm just hoping I can find it before I have to start stripping the bike down to get in the hard to reach areas for a more thorough inspection. I was hoping someone might have known a specific wire that seems to be a common failure on the 1st gens, but hopefully I can find it soon and get back to riding.
