So I was on the back straight at the track last weekend somewhere in the ball park of 90 quickly approaching a small right hand kink in the course and it just fell out of gear!! That's some scary **** to just lose power like that. The engine bounced off the rev limiter before I realized what happened and I forced it back into gear. I didn't have it happen at all the rest of the day although I was a little nervous it would. This happened about the 5th session of the day.

Now I've heard of and had happen the ghost neutral sometimes between 4-5 or 5-6 and I think that is a fairly common thing to have happen and nothing to worry about. On the other hand I have not heard of people having it just fall out of gear.

Is this a bad sign? Failing transmission or something or I am just being paranoid?

It happens.

Are you GP or regular shift?

If GP, raise your shift lever slightly.
If regular, lower your shift lever slightly.

This allows a slightly more positive shift input.

Also, if you're about due for an oil change sometimes you can have some minor transmission issues like this.

Glad to hear its not that strange of a thing to occur.

Its a regular shift so I will lower the lever slightly.

I'm going to change the oil before my next trackday. I figure every other trackday or 1500 mi (which ever comes first) is a fair oil change schedule. How often do you change your oil when running on the track?

more a question then an answer but would using the later model shift star wheel help keep things engaged
not sure if your 03 has it or not
This was suggested to me by someone at the track too. I need to look into this. Any idea what the part number is?

Also what exactly is a "shift star" and what is its function?
