There’s a listing in my area for a sv1000. It has 7800 miles and its priced at $4995. He put M4’s on the exhaust, really good condition, and has the OEM belly fairing. I have a 2011 Honda shadow that I was lucky to get for $900 bucks as my first bike at 16. I’m still young and don’t have a great income so I have $4k and that’s it. Would that be a low ball slap in the face or would someone let one go at that price?

$5K strikes me as high for that bike. It's 15 years old, and not any kind on cult or classic bike that has a following. The M4 cans and belly pan are nice-to-haves, but don't really add any value.
If it's perfect, and the tires, chain and sprockets and other consumables are in good shape, then maybe $4K on a good day. $3500 what I'd expect it to actually sell for.

That's mucho dinero, I hope you passed.
Your story sounds familiar, when I was that age and poor I was doing the same thing and my second bike (first real bike) was a 95 Shadow. Stone solid reliable but I wish I had started w/ the SV650.
