No, it's not the latest crappy sim game on Steam, but this is pretty nifty.

cycle-ergo.com/

I stumbled on it while agonizing over ordering a Sargent seat and dreading the loss in seat height. Then I made the SV look like it had ape hangers on this program and chuckled. Also ordered a seat. Figure worst case I can sell it to one of you fine folks.

I discovered by accident that you can pick two bikes and just use the mouse scroll wheel to go back and forth between them without needing to move the mouse. Nice find. I used this to check my position on my two Triumphs to confirm my own impressions while riding.

As an aside, I first spent $78 to have a local guy mod my stock seat. Much better than stock. Several yrs later I did the Sargent seat thing because I found a discounted price and since everyone raves about them. First ride I had shooting pains down both legs. The seat or me finally broke in, but it wasn't an improvement over my cheaper modded stock seat. Since then I have stock seats modded vs buying aftermarket. Cheaper and you can specify how you want the seat. Just my view.

Yeah, I may end up going with something like that, but my stock seat was in REAL bad shape. The cover was basically shredded, and the foam has soaked up tons of water. I thought about buying a new stock seat and sending it to GDTR, but the cost would have been about the same as the Sargent, and I've always wanted to try it out anyway. Fingers crossed.

very cool. thanks for posting.

the sargent will be a great improvement over stock. some taller riders say it feels like you are rolling off the back, but if you are sitting more forward it's pretty comfy. I chose the corbin for a variety of reasons, but both seem to be top quality seats.

NTJordan---theres this as seen on tv seat pad made with memory foam, they sell it at bed bath and beyond, i took apart my last sv seat, cut that to fit, and removed some of the hard seat foam. It was a throne my friend, much more comfortable than the corbin seat i had on my hawk.

Super cheap alternative ~$20

Thanks for the tip! I actually did some diy mods to the seat a few years back, used a camping pad to add a little support and shaved it down a touch. Honestly, the stock seat was in such bad shape (see my "what did you do to your sv today" post) and the foam has soaked in years of water, so I figured I would need a new one either way. It was only like $100 more for the Sargent comapred to a new stock unit, and I would be lying if I said I didn't want to try something fancy.

While they cater more to the offroad and dualsport crowd, seatconcepts.com will take your stock seat pan and modify it for a lot less than buying a Corbin or Sargent seat. I've heard lots of good things about them regarding my zook DR350SE so I'll probably give them a shot.

Darn, just got the Sargent, and it's about to come off. It's totally intolerable. It doesn't quite reach the tank, so you just ride on the front lip of the seat, I can't find a way to sit on the thing. Think I'll go back to my crappy stocker and stop complaining about it being uncomfortable.

Uhm, two things.
1) Are you sure you got the right seat for your year bike?
2) Why are you scooting all the way to the front of the seat? Scoot back in the saddle. You'll have better control, and much better leverage under braking...

Yeah, it's the right seat, just doesn't quite sit against the tank.

I sit on the front part of the seat much of the time, though I move around a bit. While cruising I like to have my thighs against the tank rather than my knees, maybe not correct but it feels best to me. The issue with the Sargent (to me) is that the front part of the seat has an upward curve that presses up against my thigh unless I'm on the very back of the seat, and then I feel like I'm stretching to reach the bars. I don't know, maybe I do need to think about how I sit on the bike, I might have developed some bad habits over the years.

It seems like it might be better with more aggressive rear sets, as that might rotate my hips a little, but I'm not really wanting to go for that. We'll see, I haven't gotten out for a long ride yet, so I'll give it a fair chance. And I'm not at all saying it's a bad seat, it's quite nice, just maybe not the right seat for me.

It took several hundred miles for my Sargent seat to break in. Not unusual for an aftermarket seat to need break-in. Take a pic of the seat on the bike if you can. My Sargent seat fit fine on my '01SVS. Your riding style is a bit weird to be honest. Sounds like you're almost sitting on the tank. The very front of the seat, the curved part, is not meant to be sat on. I think that you need to rethink your seating position. But, I never fell in love with my Sargent either. Not the panacea that everyone raves about. At least for me and possibly you, however, your way of sitting is more like that of a dirt bike position which has a seat shape that accommodates sitting that far forward.

I think you are right about that, but I always feel like the bars are too high if I sit further back. Maybe it's time to think about some riser plates and lower bars to see how that feels. Been looking for a project anyway.

It does sound like you're letting the bars dictate your sitting position rather than the other way around. Maybe try finding the sweet part of the seat (it's there...promise!) then modding the bars to allow you to ride using it? My Sargent will allow some movement, but pretty much has a 'pocket' for the buttocks that is most comfortable. The 'boys' wouldn't care for me being up on the tank too far for very long.

Did you notice the Sargent is lower than the stock seat? Mine is about as low as you can physically make a seat, but others have said theirs are as tall (or taller) than stock!

The loss of height it actually what made me swap back to stock. It feels MUCH lower to me, and I'm not a fan. I've thought about getting a custom one built, but I'm not sure about that. Might just stick with stock for now, I'm honestly getting somewhat serious about buying an FZ-09 anyway, so the SV may be sold or become a track machine.

All you guys saying the Sargent is lower than the stock seat--just measure it!
I did. The Sargent is about 1/2 " higher.

But when sitting on the seat, the perception may change, depending on how it compresses for you, and where you sit. For me, it still feels higher (but I only weigh about 160 w/ gear).

Still, technically, it's higher. And it does take a while to get used to. Now I find it very comfortable, but at first, not so much. YMMV, but eventually I guarantee you'll agree it's a MUCHO improvement on the stock seat.
