Engine stalls when idling, like at a stop, Goes away when turn key off & back on

I'm posting this because according to this thread:

http://forum.svrider.com/showthread.php?t=90386

it sounds like quite a few people have had this problem.

Basically the bike will start and run like normal and then later when coming to stop or anytime it goes to low RPM it will stall.

It will restart with a hit on the starter button and some quick throttle again to keep the RPMs up but if the rpms drop it will stall again. Keeping some throttle on at stops will keep it going.

Turning off the key and turning it back on again seems to clear up the problem but then it will come back intermittently (like it won't happen on every ride but sometimes will pop up).

I am hoping someone has had this fixed or found a diagnosis/fix for it ! !

Thank you

Ed

my bike just wont idle @1200 rpm without a surge
If the bike is surging, maybe it's a throttle body sync issue?

Ok two questions. 1) what is the TPS, 2) what is the best way to make the necessary adjustment to correct the stalling out problem?
I have a 2004 SV650S

your tps is the throttle position sensor. All it does is tell the bike when to start using the fuel injectors compared to the gravity fed injection system for the idling bike. It normally has nothing to do with the stalling of the bike. Adjusting the tps will elimiate the surge in acceleration but will not help with the stalling.there is bunch of threads on this, but if the bike wasn't heavily modded before you got it, then you shouldn't have to worry about it. It's not meant to be tinkered with. your idle is too low, it should idle somewhere around 1400 rpm even when it is really warm, for example after riding 3 hours. do a tps search on here if you still want to tinker with it, but many say that they don't have much of a gain from this, I felt a difference big time.

anyone know how to adjust the idle on the 07+ bikes??? I know they don't have the idle screw and it's on some auto adjust system, but there must be another way to adjust, no? (other than going to the dealership).

Anyone....Anyone.....Bueller....Bueller?

Yes, help, please! I've got an '08 that is stalling out at the light. I want to adjust the idle up (it's around 1,200 now, but obviously drops lower at times and then stalls out).

So, how do I adjust the idle?

Many thanks,

I was having the same issue like you guys where my 03 SV would start up fine, but whenever I would get to a stop light, the idle would go below 1k and then would stall. I finally adjusted the idle to 1600 RPM's and added the adjustable TRE and haven't had a problem since.
I'm interested in seeing if anyone has a solution. It seems like it is mostly an '05 problem.
