Hello! We've just picked up my 'new' 2017 sv650 ..... Flat battery, so connected a booster pack to start it. Everything lit up nicely on first attempt but didn't start. On second attempt, it started and runs fine, however, the display panel (speedo thingy? ) isn't working now and the bike's not charging. Could be two separate issues? Checked the obvious fuses under the seat but is there a sneaky one somewhere else? Any tips or suggestions please?

First, fully charge the battery. If it won't hold a charge (which it probably won't), then buy a new battery and charge it as directed before using it.

The bike's definitely not charging at all? You've used a multimeter across the battery terminals when the engine is running, yes? What was the reading at idle? And the reading definitely did not increase when the engine was revved?

The battery could have died, as said above, but before spending any money on a new battery I'd like to make sure that the charging system is definitely not working.

If it's not charging it could be a dodgy connection somewhere (unusual on a 3-year-old bike) or a failed reg/rec (very rare on SVs after 2003) or a problem with the generator (again, very rare on the 650s).

Was it a private sale or from a dealer? If from a dealer, take it back to them. UK Sale of Goods Act states that any major major fault occurring within 6 months of purchase is assumed to have been developing at the time of sale, so it's the dealer's liability.
