Crash report with pics and gear review

Last week I was on my merry way to work traveling on I-80 in Sacramento when a lady changed lanes rather quickly without looking. I was in the fast lane when she came over into my lane and hit me. Traffic was heavy and we were only going about 30mph. I lowsided on the right side and hit the ground with my shoulder first. I tumbled a little bit and got up and out of the lane. My bike continued on its way, riderless and on the right side, and hit the car in front of me because traffic had stopped. Both the lady and the other guy stopped, everyone is insured, and I found out today the lady's insurance will accept liability. They are going to send out an adjustor to look at the SV. I'm fine, I had a sore neck and in general I was stiff for a few days.

My Icon Battlecry helmet did its job.

My Shift Racing jacket has a hole in the shoulder right at the armor. Small scratch on Joe Rocket GPX gloves.

Chewed up frame slider.

Bent rearset.

Scraped fairing and rashed Pazzo lever. Lever didn't break tho.

The fairing and windscreen are quite knackered.

My gear did its job, the helmet, jacket, and gloves kept me safe. My polyester slacks and tennis shoes, not so much. I have a bruise on my hip, a small scrape on my knee, and another small scrape on my ankle. So I guess the lesson learned is to wear all your gear all the time. I have armored overpants and Oxtar boots that I was too lazy to put on that morning.

The frame sliders helped reduce the damage. The radiator made it through the incident intact. There is some more rash on the tail and a little on my Micron can. I picked the bike up and rode it home.

I hope this has helped other people make informed decisions about wearing gear and what gear to wear. As soon as insurance runs its course then I guess I'll join the ranks of the few, and that is the naked coppers.

I hate crashing! Glad you're ok. Looks nasty, but I think you can get it back together. I done the sliding down the road thing also, glad you had your gear on. It makes a HUGE difference. Make sure the insurance Co. pays for a new helmet, new jacket, new gloves and anything else that was damaged. My late crash I replaced a 5 year old Arai with a brand new one. Sorry man, glad you're ok.
Wow. Glad you're okay. Give the medical stuff time to sort out before you sign anything on that. Things like vertabral misalignment and such won't show up for at least a few days.
Did you get examined by a doctor? If not, consider doing so. The at-fault motorist's insurance should be covering this as well.
good to hear your ok and that insurance is going to cover everything. definatly get checked my a doctor and make sure that they cover all your gear to
Glad you're okay. I wouldn't be surprised if they total your bike. Still, the damage is pretty minor and like you said you can transform it to a naked easily at this point. New rearsets, new right side clip on, headlight kit and you'll be naked for very little money.
I feel just fine. I've had worse wrecks on my mountain bike. So I'll probably be too lazy for the doctor thing. I'm stubborn like that.

I was thinking about going naked even before this, now I have an excuse. I got some Triumph Speed Four headlights off E-Bay for $65, and some bar end mirrors for $25. So I'll do the bug eyed look for cheap hopefully. Just have to figure out some turn signals. The bar end turn signals are expensive, but the make the bike look really clean. Time will tell...

Yeah, a lowside is actually pretty easy on the body so long as you are wearing proper gear and don't hit anything. If there is a best way to crash a bike I'd say it's a lowside with nothing for you to slide into.

I've got to check ebay for some Street Triple or Speed Triple headlights. Those would look sick on my bike.
Highside sucks trust me.... LOL glad you are ok and it wasn't your fault.

Now the Ebay bar end mirrors buy the 35.00 ones they are great you will probably never go back to the other mirrors.

Black with 3" mirrors they don't vibrate at all and you can adjust tension on them for wind with an allen.
Glad to hear you are ok. Make sure you get in to the doctor to get looked at. How is your shoulder? I took a fall at about 30 skiing and messed up my rotator cuff pretty bad.

Broke my collar bone in october. Should see a doc especially if it hurts the next day. I know thats bad enough.

But if you are stubborn and not paying for it you might as well.
When it comes time for settlement, be sure to mention a sore neck and sore back. They will usually toss money at you to get you to settle faster seeing as how neck and back injuries are notorious for going weeks before becoming a problem. They don't want liability for them.

Also, be sure the settlement includes a reserve (typically for a month) that will allow you one more visit to the doctor after a month that will also be covered. You never know what problems could arise within a month of the accident.

My girlfriend made $1000 on my last accident just because her nose and neck were sore, plus she had a $2000 cushion she could use for doctor visits up to a month, which was nice to have just in case. Made me wish my neck had been sore! lol.

My dad is my agent, so I always get advice from him what to say after my accidents, none of which were my fault.

Try to get insurancee to cover your gear as well since you were wearing protective gear.
They should cover it. Its a liability to them if you don't. Threaten you'll become a squid...
