WD-40 has a new product called "WD-40 Specialist Corrosion Inhibitor" that is excellent for preventing rust. Many times better than traditional WD-40.steel wool will rust. when using it you will embed little pieces of it in the surface that will eventually rust. big problem in a marine environment. not sure how bad the problem is when you're not near the ocean. bronze wool is a better alternative.
