hey guys,

Im about to buy a 650s from Wisconsin and take a long trip with it back to colorado, probably taking 3 weeks. What is the process in regards to the registration of the bike? Will I be able to be gone that long from Colorado without plates? Any thoughts?

I took a Delaware title w/ insurance binder to the NJ DMV. Walked out w/ a NJ title, registration & plate. No trouble really.

So if I do that and get a WI reg and plate, do I have to change it when I get back to Colorado? and pay twice?

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, but I'm planning on doing this roadtrip and probably won't be back to Colorado for 3 + weeks, so if I get pulled over and have had the bike for 3 weeks and its not registered... Is there any kind of temp permit I can get for that long?

I'd try to see if the current owner will let you keep the plate for three weeks if you get your own insurance. Perfectly legal as long as you have his registration, bill of sale (to prove that you own it), and are the insured rider.

Most states will sell you a temporary registration for $20 or so.
