In the process of prepping the SV for track days, and realized that I've been out of the racing/trackday world long enough that I don't know what people are using these days. Saw the AIM Solo recommendations in @atblasi post, and was wonder if there's a more basic option out there. I just need laptimes. Ideally battery powered, but that's not a big deal.
Any suggestions?

A lot of the guys in my class just run the Race Chrono App on a mobile phone stuffed in their leathers. I use an old (smaller) mobile that doesn't even have a SIM card in it as the App only requires satellite coverage.

Interesting, I didn't even think to look for an app. Thanks!

i would just get an aim solo 2 (cause that's what i have). the cool thing with it is you can see speeds everywhere, build synthetic laps, see deltas, etc. definitely worth doing over "just the laptime" which is a questionable piece of information anyway

I've been pondering this same question, and I haven't pulled the trigger on a cheaper lap timer because I feel like I'll regret it based on the recommendations I've been given in favor of the Solo 2.

Where do you typically mount these things? I see that there is a triple tree mount, but I can't find the dimensions on it. I measured the amount of fork + cap over my triple, and it's 8mm (6mm fork, 2mm cap). Not sure if that's enough to grab tightly or if I'd need to work something else out. 419 Racing AiM Solo 2 Fork Mount

I used a Ram mount kit with a u-bolt that holds the base to the OE fairing stay. Visually, it sits to the left of the stock instrument cluster, and it’s about 6” closer to my face. Out of the way of controls

You're probably right, but as I said in the other thread I'm trying to not take this too seriously. :) I'm just looking to see how I'm progressing through the day (if at all).

Not sure how the "not take this too seriously" bit is going to work, had a dream last night where I was endurance racing again. :)

I caved and bought an AIM Solo 2. I might try installing it this weekend--supposed to snow 10", but I guess that gives me time to figure out where to mount it.

I had tried to purchase a Scotts stabilizer as well. I have never felt like I needed one at all, but it's now in my head of "rather have it and not need it...". Anyway, my order was cancelled at two different places and 58Cycle just got back to me saying these are backordered for the next 4-6 months.

Just post up a WTB at the WERA Forum classifieds. That's where I got mine for a great price. I have the Pit Bull, my son has the Scott's. Both are excellent.
